Buying a 2015 Golf 7R, Good idea?
Hey guys,
We are in need of a second car, ideally a hatch/coupe... Doesnt necessarily need 4 doors but will be better with 4. We have a budget of 80 000 AED (im based in the UAE).
From the thousands of Toyota's, Hyundai's, etc i could go buy brand new, they just dont interest me.
The reason for the second car is once my wife gives birth and returns to work her hours will change, which means she wont be travelling with the lift club. So, the second car will basically be a run about, needs to be 'compact' but also easy to load/offload a baby into the car seat - Hence leaning towards a 4 door, but a 2 door will also be okay cos my wife can use the Ford Edge we have if baby is going with...
So this really sparked my interest and lead me to this post is:
I would love this, a bit out my budget though...
But the concern is maintenance on the 7.:R... So, i turn to you guys:
- Should i be concerned about anything particularly? Finding a stock, unmolested is going to be challenge 1, but im in no rush and if all fails, i will just have to be mindful and go for a run of the mill run-around.
- What are the common wear and tear items? Turbo? DV? Gearbox? Engine??
- Costly service items/intervals?
I never skimp on maintenance, so i rather avoid the car now if its going to expensive to maintain, seeing as most are out of service plan and/or nearing the end of the warranty. We plan to keep the car for at least 2-3 years.
Oh, this is an option cos its pretty and easy to mod, so i will also enjoy, a little!

Re: Buying a 2015 Golf 7R, Good idea?
As much as I love mine and use it daily, during the week anyway, I wouldn't look at one as a runabout for my SO as it seems a waste of a car. I have heard of few issues with them though, a few rattles here and there, laggy DSG gearboxes, some rear diff rebuilds, some turbo issues, some thermostat issues, etc. I bought mine with a full Automotion plan so the cost of maintenance is irrelevant to me, new cars push the boundaries of what I am comfortable with in terms of risk.

Rattles... I can probably live with. The rest, i'll pass...
Perhaps, buying a slightly less entertaining car with the benefits of service and warranty is the better option. Im with you on the bold bits!

No chance in getting the full plan once its out of plan rite? The issue with maintaining a car here is the good guys are as expensive as the dealerships.

I've had a look at the bargains you get on Dubizzle. Lots of great cars going for cheap cheap. I'll take 10k AED off when making an offer. Look at a Tiguan as well.

Re: Buying a 2015 Golf 7R, Good idea?
Yeah, I search for cars going upto 90k AED if my budget is 80k AED. Knock of 10k when negotiating.
Have the Ford Edge as a Family/SUV, so not interested in another SUV.
Maybe i must just go look at the 2014 Mustang GT i have in mind. Considering parts and labor are dirt cheap compared to other cars. Plus i will save 20k AED.

You would have to speak to a dealership to see if you can add a maintenance plan on to a used VW.Arbee wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:45 amWe will let the SO believe its for her...Neuk wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:36 amIf it is for you as a daily I would never have bought mine without the full Automotion plan.Arbee wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:24 amWell, it could be my daily and my SO can use the Edge...Neuk wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:19 am As much as I love mine and use it daily, during the week anyway, I wouldn't look at one as a runabout for my SO as it seems a waste of a car. Wow! 89000 AED = 325k ZAR For a golf R Wish they were that price in SA
If i’m not mistaken Volkswagen UAE comes with a 5 year unlimited km warranty and has a option to extended
Fuel price is also super cheap so that isnt a concern
I think if you can get a low millage one and get the warranty/maintenance plan extended than its worth it!

No, i checked at Ali & Sons, its 5 year warranty, but 3 year service/maintenance as default which can be extended but at a price.

Re: Buying a 2015 Golf 7R, Good idea?
Get a car on lease. Go to dealer and get the one below your budget that stirs you up.
Buying a car in UAE is generally not a good idea. Lease is just so much better. No repairs, services etc to stress about.
Read the paperwork carefully!

Clubsport! So much more special than the R... and it's a 2016 so it has some nice little upgrades over 2015 models.
