Golf MK1 (2009) ECU Problems?

Hi all,

Just joined, and need some info, please. I have a 1.4 Golf (2009), and I'm pretty sure the ECU is dead. The car starts, but no dash lights, no flickers, no hazards, and my fuel consumption is crazy... I don't have the cash to replace ECU's... Is there any workarounds/ bridging that can be done on this to correct the problem? I understand previous owner put in another ECU (MPi), and the thing blew immediately...

Any advice will be amazing!

Thanks!

No cheap workaround but you can fit an aftermarket system like dictator or perfect power.
The dash and flickers are most likely another problem not related to the management

The Citi's from 2008 on had MPI - prior to that it was MP9.

Fuel consumption could be related to faulty oxygen/airflow/water temp sensors and agree with panic that the dash and flickers are another issue.

Does it's smell like it's over fueling from the exhaust tail pipe? Does it idle steadily?

Best to have to scanned and avoid replacing unnecessary things

many many many mpi failures - smell rich ot idles hight - then suddenly lean. There is something failing in those boxes. We take over the fuel and timing and leave the box to do idle control etc. Choose your aftermarket system dictator works ok. my preferred is Perfect power XMS5 but it is almost twice as expensive but very refined.
