New Member. Need help with performance (2L 8V ADY)

Post by Joshmunger_424 »

Hi Everyone,

I'm driving a Citi golf that has been converted from a 1.4 carb(chico) to a 2l 8v fuel injection. :driving:
I'm looking for advice in terms of performance on this 2l 8v ADY engine.

Its a beauty to drive and no problems so far but looking for more power.

Looking to push out +-120wkw.
I was told to put a u-flow / x-flow head.
Either dictator management or a uni-chip.
As well as a cam kit(vernier,lifters,cam) - either 282 or 288.(***)

Not sure what combo will be the best. Any better advice will be much appreciated.
As well as places to get all the stuff done and prices if possible (I stay in roodepoort and work in Randburg) :)

It is currently stock with a recent full stainless 57mm exhaust put in with branches.

Budget will be somewhere around 10-12k

HI. I would start with line boring and balancing crank, clutch and flywheel. Weigh all 4 conrods and make sure they weigh the same, check your valve clearance and have the block skimmed to increase compression. Get the head flowed properly, intake ports and valve/valve seat angles cut. ( leave the exhaust ports, just polish them up, dont polish the intake ports after flowing).
Personally i wouldnt go with a very aggressive camshaft on a long stroke engine, i would stick to a 272 but thats my opinion.
It doesnt help dumping a cam on a standard engine, you might see slight gains, but do the job properly and you build a really nice motor.

There must be a million threads here f how to do that exactly so just search.
At polomike.
I am not sure what line boring is supposed to do for performance as any currently running motor has anyway been lined bored otherwise it would not be running.
Long duration cams actually works especially well for long BLOCK engines. the stroke is actually the same as all the other VW 2l engines despite the block being taller. maybe it was just a slip of the finger.

at the OP - please consider enquiring or using Estas cams from sportcam instead of ***. from experience they deliver better.
