Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Hi Guys
been having intermittent problems on my 2013 Mk7 Golf Tdi. sometime there is heat, sometimes there isn't.
I have flushed/reverse flushed the heat radiator that sits in the dashboard as well as radiator looking thing under the airbox (mounted to the gearbox).
It seems to be working for now but will have to monitor for some time.
So the question is - Please can any of you advise if there is perhaps a valve somewhere in the engine bay that allows water to move to the heater radiator when the heater is switched on? or is the water always circulating through it ?
Thanks.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Are you sure it is not the climate control system, I know some cars had issues (mine included) with controls?

Have you scanned the vehicle with VCDS? And do you have Climatic or Climatronic?

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Hi guys, have not scanned with vcds.
I'm not sure if it's climatic or climatronic. It does not have dual zone, that much I know, and the temp knob does not have the numbers/degrees like my mk6 Gti used to have. It's just blue on 1 side and red on the other side.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Aaaaaand the problem is back....was on my way up to GP and just when I needed the heater at Noon River..... nothing! Will have to get the car scanned to see if that reveals anything. Results will be posted as soon as I manage to get it done.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Have had teh car scanned and did not reveal any faults.
An additional bit of information - there is a gurgling sound coming from the dashboard from the heater core region amd there is also an intermittent 'clicking' sound. Mainly notice this when i switch the car off after a drive of approx 1 hour or so
Any ideas guys ?

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Hi All
Update after a long while. I am still battling with this and the car is taking about 750ml of coolant for every 650kms. Been to an aircon shop and the guy advises that the Heater Core may be leaking and quotes approx 5k to repair. I have however done a pressure test on the cooling system and there is no drop in pressure detected, nor are there any signs of dampness inside the car.
Please can someone advise if the Mk7 Golf has a control valve which controls the flow of water to the heater core? If so, please can you let me know the location.
I am also thinking about bypassing the heater core to test another theory i.e. that the core may be blocked which is causing a pressure build up and therefor causing the coolant to leak form the reservoir overflow (i do see signs of dry coolant around the reservoir)
help guys

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Shot in the dark, was system bled properly? air in system, might explain drop in coolant , as coolant replaces air.
When you flush/refill/bleed, dash heater controls must be @ max hot and fan speed @ max speed.
Do not use any coolant other than G11/ G12 spec, and distilled , or at least boiled water.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Thanks, will give it a shot, but I think the golf 7 has a heater system which constantly flows water through the heater core. I am using G13 coolant.markfish888 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 2:21 pm Shot in the dark, was system bled properly? air in system, might explain drop in coolant , as coolant replaces air.

I am not seeing any signs of water over flowing from the water bottle anymore, now that I have the heater bypass in place, now I need to figure where the water is going....

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Hello Guys,
I'm new to this forum. I came across it thread as i am experiencing the exact same issue, with the same make and model 2013 Golf 7 2.0 TDi.
I would like to know has this issue been resolved? if so, What was the problem?
Thanks.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Hi
Yes I did resolve it. It was 2 separate issues, water loss was from the EGR cooler and the heater problem was a clogged heater radiator.
I bypassed the EGR cooler pipes and needed software the write out the EGR process.
For the heater, I bought a new radiator from VW and replaced myself, was about R3300 for the radiator.

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
Even with the blockage in my old heater radiator, the water still flowed though it, which had me baffled. The only time I realised how bad the blockage was when I bought the new radiator and blew threw it. On the new radiator there was no effort at all, it was easy as breathing out normally. With the old one, the air flowed, but there was a bit of resistance.BKj wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 1:38 pmHiGti3 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 1:15 pmHi

Re: Mk7 Heater system working intermittently
So i got my car back on Friday. Turns out the heater core/matrix was completely blocked. After your first response i decided to approach the issue as 2 separate problems, Thank you. I booked the car in with air-con specialist and they resolved the heating issue for me by flushing the system and replacing the heater core, as they could not salvage the old one.Gti3 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 2:17 pmEven with the blockage in my old heater radiator, the water still flowed though it, which had me baffled. Now i just need to keep an eye on the coolant level to see if the issue was related or not. If the coolant drops again i will take it in for another pressure test, just not at a Barons. They are a waste of time and money.
