Can't find correct spline position for Mk4 wiper arm

The passenger's side wiper arm on my Mk 4 rests exactly parallel with the lower edge of the windscreen, nicely out of sight. But the driver's side wiper arm is problematic to position correctly. In the one position, it points downwards and contacts the plastic shield at the bottom of the windscreen. If I turn the spline fitting one tooth further, then it actually points slightly upwards and the resting position is too high, so that it's clearly visible.

Can one actually try to fit the spline cone tooth-to-tooth? That doesn't seem like the right thing to do. The connecting rods of the mechanism aren't adjustable for length, otherwise I would have tried that.

Any advice appreciated.

This is how they sit.

OK, thanks, then I'll just check the top end of the sweep to make sure it's not too close to the A pillar. Last time I tried that position, it didn't seem correct at all, but I'll check again.

Maybe somebody put a too long blade on it at some point?.

Hmmm.

The blades are brand new, sourced from Scotty [Edit, Shorty] and team at GW Pretoria East. Each of them is pretty much the same length as the old one. I'll play around with the adjustment some more.
