Fitting 100w globes in polo 6r spotlight.

Post by mellos »

Hi there
I am not sure whether this has already been covered here but anyway here goes.
Has anyone fitted 100w globes in the polo 6r spotlight.
If anyone has did it result in the housing actually melting or did you experience any problems
when fitting the 100w globes, the original 35w globes don't seem to even light up the road
so I was just curious to find out if anyone fitted anything brighter than that in there and what the outcome was.

Thanks.....

35 to 100 is a big jump imo.. i dont know how much current that 100w bulb will require, but u might be popping fuses. And 100w bulbs will definitely produce more heat so damage to the plastic and the reflector might occur.

Y not go with HID or the new LED stuff? They are quite bright.

I suggest u give jabsport a call, best in the business with lighting. Or u can also speak to ChrisFZ on the forum i think he does lighting aswell

Ashveer has mentioned Valid points, those 100w bulbs will cause you endless issues.

Best is to get HID lighting and i see you in Pietermaritzburg, get in contact with Jabsport and he will sort you out.

Why? If you referring to the lights in the bumper as spotlights, they are actually fog lights and were never really intended in lighting up the road. They are there to increase visibility during misty conditions.

Look it will work initially but as said car electronics will take a beating + added heat emitted ,times have changed ,
You get more Lumens(light measurement) with four times less wattage i.e. 25 watts these days.

At 100w on a 12v circuit, those bulbs are 8.3 amps per bulb - be prepared to change fuses - You can go bigger fuse but then wires will get hot and eventually melt over a long period. It wasn't meant to handle such current.

I agree. Dont take the trouble.

Better of with led or hid in my opinion. It doesnt draw much more current than stock bulbs and is way brighter.

Downside is, if u have hid fogs your headlights will be like park lights compared to it - best to do both (headlights and fogs)

NO! HID's in a normal non-projector headlamp, just scatters the beam all over and irritates the k@k outta oncoming traffic.

Lol :iagree: Anything higher than 4000k belongs in a Projector as to not affect other road users as it's directed, The lower the lumens the softer the light , The higher the harder.

They actually do make 3500k HID's for non projected lights , But most of the ones they sell is 6000k which is brighter than daylight lol

Lol i did say "HID or LED", well instead of turning this into an argument thread, OP has enough info to decide what he/she wants to go with.

Alternatively just get a decent set of 'halogen-type' bulbs, they make a huge difference. Just fitted a set of Osram Nightbreakers to my cousin's Pajero, and he is raving about how much better the lighting is.

Fog lights on the Polo is HB4 fitting(IIRC), and those can be a little more difficult to get hold of, in CPT Diesel Electric and Auto Magneto are the best options
