VW 1.4i 2005 'sluggish @ pull away'

Good Day All
I trust all is well,
Reason for this discussion is that I have a standard 1.4i 2005 VW citi golf,
I had my timing belt/tensioner pulley/water pump replaced at a local service centre (RMI approved)
For some reason the car seemed sluggish on the pull away (low on torque), the mechanic then mentioned that in the next service I should bring the car for a distributor cap replacement as they claimed there was some arcing from the plug leads, so taking the assumption that they know what they are talking about I gave the car to have the distributor cap replaced (they did not replace the leads) and for about a week the car was perfect.
After a week the car cut out on me completely whilst driving and after somewhat trial and error I found that this was due to 2xfaulty leads,
I replaced the leads myself and took it back to the mechanic after which they replaced the throttle body (i was hit over the head as i believe this was not the issue)
Car seems to drive bit better but is still sluggish (after new spark plugs & leads), the car feels asif it has a slight lag @ the first 2 seconds of pull away,
Would this be due to faulty injectors?
This whole exercise with the mechanics already costed me about R10K and is quite hefty for a student..
I hope someone who has experienced similar issues could advise me to a next step
Kind Regards
