MK1 timing issues

Post by duple07 »

Hi All

I bought a MK1 with a performance and idling issue. Its a 2009 1.6i with 94 000km
1st the fuel pressure regulator pushed 6 bar fuel to injectors which we have now repaired
Then the idling was still bad by closer investigation we noticed that the coil and distributor needed replacement. We have done this with OEM parts
Then the diagnostics showed an lambda error which we also replaced

So after all this work the car is still not performing it has a rough start almost a misfire for 3 sec or so then it clears. When you drive it its still doesn't really accelerate like it should with a lag here and there under acceleration.

I really want to keep the car authentic thus the reason for replacing the parts but we feel a bit clueless to what is the problem on the vehicle.

Can anyone suggest of similar issues experienced and the fix on the MPI system?

The late 2008 models came with MPI ECU and not the MP9 as in the previous models.
Those ECUs manufactured by Shurlock give alot of lambda issues that can't be fixed.
I had similar issues until we replaced the ECU with the older MP9.

Yeah lambda dtcs that keep occurring are signs of a faulty ecu unfortunately..

Thanks for the info,

So can I then only replace the ECU with the MP9 ECU will the system still work? Even if I keep the MPI system in!

No, MP9 does have a different plug and some wiring differences.
You will need a MP9 short loom, cut the MPI plug off and re-solder the new wires.
You can find wiring diagrams of all over the net for the MP9.
Most of the colour coding is the same.
You keep all existing sensors ect.

Thanks for the reply

I can get a ECU of a Velocity 1.6i and a wiring loom. So All I do is replace the ECU and the system should be back to normal then?

Do you still leave the lambda sensor in?

Thanks
