Multiple Maps - Golf 5 GTi - Stage 2

Post by Sashren »

Howzit Veedubsters

Im new to thee Forum, this is my 1st post.

I have a stage 2 Mk5 Gti with FR&R software. Bought the vehicle with this map which is a bit high on fuel.
When I first drove the car i was getting around 15.8l/100km driving like Ms daisy on the freeway, driving a bit harsh it used to fly up to 22l/100km+.
I ran a diagnostics and an error came up for the N80 valve which I have replaced and since then its been a bit more decent.

I sit in traffic for about 45mins to travel 13kms to work, my consumption daily is around 16.8l/100kms which is a bit high.
On the freeway now I get much better consumption than before, the traffic is whats killing me :bang: .

This is my daily ride, is there perhaps a way that i can install 2 maps on the car (Eco mode for the week / sport mode for the weekend) so i can get some decent consumption in traffic. I know that some peeps install a boost controller and some use the cruise control function to swop between maps.

What are the pros and cons on this ? and is it advisable to run 2 maps on these vehicles ?
All suggestions welcome. shot homies

Thanks Guys! :driving:

I do the same distance to work in around 30 - 35 minutes but I regularly get my trip consumption to below 11l/100km, 16.8l/100km is just ridiculous.

Come guys be reasonable, 16L/100km is stupid high for just software and probably intake/exhaust.

@OP speak to another tuner bro

Why not speak to the original tuner first, since he mapped the car with the previous owner??

Here is Leon’s workshop contact numbers ‭‭(012) 681-4033‬.

Do you have supporting mods for the stage 2 stoftware?

nothing wrong with that. My car is more economical modded than it was stock.

OP's consumption is quite heavy.

There should not be a need for more than one map for economy and performance. Rather the low load/part throttle range of the map should be tuned for economy and higher load/full throttle range should be tuned for power.

Your consumption is insanely high. Maybe check for other errors on the car before blaming the map. A 2+ gti should be below 10l/100km if you take it easy in town.

But the mk5 ecu does have space for multiple maps, best used for different fuel octanes or boost levels.
Many tuners offer map switching. Revo's map and SPS gives you 729 map combinations but not all would be usefull.

That dv sapcer chucks air away that was accounted for in fuellng. So Everytime you lift your foot you are dumping fuel into the motor that it can't use.
Remove that first of all and then take it from there

DV spacer first step as has been said.
Keep the turbo spooled with a stock type internal DV instead of loosing that airspeed and energy by dumping it out side.

That said. My K04 averages around 10L/100 in traffic.
It sounds more hardware related your problem.
Get the map checked. May be a simple change on the software.

Driving style can also help increase economy.
Try changing gear without getting into boost and getting to lower gears quicker.

PCV valve can also affect economy. So have that checked as well.

One of my other cars is. 3.6L Wrangler Unlimited. She averages 16L/100 in traffic.

But you expect that as she is 2tons and aero of a brick.
Open road is 11.
