Correct stance for mk3 Golf

Post by theunis.visser »

Hi all

I recently bought a 96 Golf GTS that came with 30mm Eibach springs installed.

It does look funny though, almost like the rear is lower than the front??

I always thought that the amount of lowering differs front from rear with front being more so that the rear "sits" higher?

Would appreciate your input.

I have also read a lot about coilovers and am wondering what brand(on a budget) I could consider (for the mk3) as an upgrade to the current setup. Would love a set of Eibach or H&R coilies, but to rich for my budget right now.

Thanks again and a Happy 2018 to you all!

Dubz-on-drugz I would prefer not to cut coils if I can avoid it.

I suppose air shocks cost even more than coilies right? That would be the ultimate solution!

Please dont cut your coils.....

Just swop your rear springs to STD rears (can buy new at Goldwagen) if you want a cheap quick solution

The other option like mentioned is JOM coilovers

I had JOM coilovers on my mk3 jetta cli, super comfy and solid enough to inspire some spirited driving. Good quality for the money

Our VR with 30mm H&R springs and Gabriel Gas Ryder shocks. Front and rear height is practically perfect.

Jetta2 that is a thing of beauty. May I ask what the h&r and Gabriels cost?

Theunis, I honestly cannot remember what the cost was. Had then fitted many years ago just after we bought the car.

Howie did you have any issues with the Konis? Heard complaints of them breaking unexpectedly.

Nope, dunno where that rumour comes from. I have had no issues with these in my Mk3, and they have been in for years now. Also have Koni's on my race car (Citi), they are coilovers and can be rebuilt. Rate them as top quality, come to think of it, have them in my Mk5 R32 as well.

Sounds right. I had 195/50/15 Yokohama on TSW Hockenheim rims on my original gts and it handled well like that. So this can only be an improvement!
