Brake pads and discs

Post by TEBZA85 »

Hi all, I'm newbie here from Cape Town. I'm driving a Golf 6 R 2012 model I would like to find out if R4500 is a reasonable price for replacing all my brake pads and discs. Thank you.

If you go OEM, I think you will struggle to replace the front discs and pads for R4500.

If you want to go OEM you will probably end up paying double if not triple that

I'll put it this way, when I had my R in for her last service, she had her front pads changed at a cost of R2400 excl. labour. So add front discs, rear pads and rear discs to that and you'll easily get past R4500.

I upgraded my golf Gti 35 edition to Powerbrake pads and disc. Just the parts for the front set me back R5600.00 excluding labour.

Unfortunately being in Cape Town means paying more and no performance parts available locally. Couriering was an option but didn't want to end up with warped disc and then having to send it back at my expense.

Our Local Goldwagen had a inferior brand of disc , likes of midas , suburban only supplied motopart and ATE & ferodo was scarce and had to pay powerbrake prices if found.

ended up getting what I needed from Master-parts

Parts costed just under 4k from my Polo GTI, reckon yours will be +-5k for decent parts excl labor.

There is a difference between between Golf GTi and R brakes, certainly on the MkVII platform.

Agreed there is quite a difference (288x25mm vs 345x30mm-Front alone), was trying to get across that since I paid 4k for polo brakes , the R will be more

Yeah, I thought Golf GTi's used 310mm front discs, but I get your point. Golf R front pads are even different to GTi's, being quite a bit longer.

Apologies , 288mm is for my polo GTI.

288mm for the POLO GTI
312mm for the Golf GTI
340mm for the GTI Performance Pack
345mm for the R

Rears also differ on all
