Noob question

Post by raeesdawood »

Hey all this might seem very silly,
But what are the requirements for one to have a downpipe installed on your car?

And don't forget any implications with regards to warranty or service/maintenance plans.

Downpipes are only for turbo cars, if someone successfully fits one to an N/A car, panic will be the first to want to see it.

Downpipes exist on N/a cars. The thing after a cast iron manifold that connects it to the exhaust under the car is also called a downpipe.
Of how much use it is changing it is debatable but that kind of wasn't part of the how long is ampiece of string question.
Not knowing anything about the poster and with no ifo provided of what car he drives it was pretty much a open to interpretation question.

Hey bud. if you want your car to sound better/deeper/meaner then yes you may look into a 50mm freeflow exhaust and add a branch to that aswell.

Downpipe change will just be pointless.

If you're looking at performance upgrades. Then yes as Panic mentioned, you will be wasting your time and money with that car.

Besides.. it sounds cool with a freeflow

Hi guys,

Another noobish question: how much does the 4 speed gearbox on a 1980 mk1 differ from the 5 speed one on modern mk1's?

I have a 1980 mk1 with a 2.0L 8v with the original 4 speed gearbox but its eating the clutch. I want to know if I can run a 210mm flywheel and 210mm clutch kit on it like the modern mk1's with 2.0L 8V's.

A lot of people have swapped the old 4 speed gearboxes for 5 speeds with a clutch upgrade thrown in. Besides finding the 5 speed linkage, it is a straightforward swap. @Roadhawg's old Rat thread might be lying around, he did it.
