Had a smash with the citi. chasis related

Post by Cass »

Hi Friends.
So My Gf had a smash with her 1.3 citi, on the driver side. The accident happened from the front.

headlight.gille bumper and bumper stifner(crashbar) and right fender damage.

My question however...I can clearly.see that the chassis is damaged..bent warped...

Can a damaged chassis like this be repaired?

I think you can still order the front chassis legs from vw, someone posted something like that a while ago

TBH, I don't think its worth fixing.

Not too be rude, but doesn't look as if the citi was in the greatest of shape to begin with.
That repair is going to cost you more than the car is actually worth.

Just have the insurance write it off, assuming its insured of course?

Is the damage on the driver's door a result of the same smash?
How is the gap between the driver's door and the windscreen, roof and door sill?

Yes , The Damage seems to be as a result of the smash. the door gap is uneven from top to bottom , and the door no longer opens fully

1. Yes there is a market for spares.
2. Panel Shops have tool's which will be able to pull that straight as close as possible. These tools pulls with brute force but note that part will always be a weak spot after the repair.

The rest of the parts can be replaced and sprayed and will hide the kink as long as the suspension parts are not affected, that car will drive again.

Truth be told, many owners are driving cars that were straighten and they're not even aware.

Tell them that it is a cash job - and see the result: substantially less than if it were an insurance claim.

This! would be more cost effective since you'll pay about 3 labor hours to pull it straight.

Unless you can do a substantial amount of the work yourself you will spend more on it than what the car is worth. Don't for sentimental or whatever reasons fix a car and overspend on it. If the repair turn out to be not perf ct you can't sell it either and it then stuck with something thatbcost money that nobody wants. Just saying

I had sold my car to smd when I crashed it,honestly I would have made more money if I stripped and sold parts but didn't have the time.
Judging from the things they looked at when assessing my car you should get a decent price especially if the car still starts ,pop them a message for a quotation and you can decline the offer if you not happy ImageImage

Even if you get new chassis legs, you will still need someone to spot weld them in. Also new bonnet, fender, slam panel, door, fender lining etc...

Damage will probably be R12-15K,

Not everyone has the appetite to part out a car so I would try selling it as is.

I Dont think that is at all bad,but if you want it done right it will cost alot.

Oh and reputable panelbeaters anyway charge insurance rates even if its cash as money is money and they there to make it.

If you get a good guy in his yard that youve seen work of that you believe to be very good he can repair it as well for much cheaper, but it might not be 100% so its your choice.

I have bought and repaired a polo 1nc and the result was ok but bonet fender and bumper gap was not 100%. This crash is much more minor than the polo was and labour charged for the job was about 4000 with a full botom respray of the car just the roof was left as it was perfect still.

Judging from the pics im sure the car should still start?

If you sell depending on the price let me know.

Cheers

Yeah that one as a backyard repair. Eish. It will need to go on a chassis jig to ever be straight. R4k uhm no just paint will be more than that even if done half arsed.
Bonnet , fender , slamtray, leg, lights, bumper , door alone will probably run to over R10k.
