So on the old solid flywheel setups the damping from clutch shudder sits on the plate. It has the springs between the centre section and the outer plate. On a dmf they moved that sprung section to the flywheel. If single mass shuddered then every car till 2000 odd when they introduced this damn thing would have had shudder issues.
Explaining it that way.....makes sense what you saying.

All the reviews I read between the two most people said the noise and the shudder effect is what set them off.

Next time I am going SMF - I purchased a LUK Clutch kit and LUK DMF yesterday from Goldwagen R9964 - Hopefully getting her back today or tommorow Image

Dual mass was introduced because the clutch plates with the spring did not last. But it was not for shudder reasons.

So this changes my mind set.....

Meaning that the DMF would be more prefered than the SMF due to the SMF not capable of taking all the Torque ?

Probably depends on brands aswell and what they rated for ?

Torque low down. Due to small turbos developing lots of torque from nowhere.
Same reason that people abuse them. Raise the rpm and it goes into boost and you dump the clutch. Although you think you might not be abusing it it is taking huge amounts of punishment. That is really a huge part of the reason why manual boxes are disapppearing.

Interesting article. Pity that there are no citations for the claim that fitting a SMF will damage the gearbox.
