Not VW related but need help from the experts

Post by RJ8V »

Hi guys just needs some info please.

On our little town car ( chevy aveo) there is a strange noise that started.

The car has a high pitch whine noise coming from the timing belt area. It is there the moment u start the car.

If I rev it a bit while car is in neutral it is still there but here is the strange part;

When driving, the moment I accelerate the noise dissapears or atleast I dont hear it, but as soon as I take my foot of the pedal (coming to a stop/ freeing) the noise is back at high pitch.

Placing foot on pedal again to accelerate... noise gone, remove and then its back. U get the picture.

At some point I thought it might be the altenator but I am not sure anymore. I havent removed the belt yet to see if it really is the altenator because shouldnt the noise be presistent even when applying pedal or not if it was the altenator.

Any leads or help will be appreciated

Thanx. Will have a look.

Are we looking at failure or tension to high?

It may also be the idler pulley if you have one on the car. What happens if you idle and you turn AC on? Tension will not be to high more a case of bearing failure if roller type

The water pump on Mazda B3 & B6 engines does something similar. However it usually happens after 400 000 or even 500 000 km.

could be as simple as the throttle body that closes to a size that lets air squeel through. See if you can take the intake pipe off and if it is louder then.
