Passat Boot Gas strut Replacement

Post by AirborneZA »

Hi there

Any suggestions where I should go to buy new gas struts for my boot lid ? Current ones are not lifting the lid at all anymore ..... Or is it one of those universal parts - take the old one to Midas or wherever and just buy whatever they have in stock ?

GW Centurion - same price but for sh!ts and giggles I asked them to quote on a coil pack - GW WP was 850 each, GW Centurion is 640

Midas Wierda Park - R420/unit

Spartan VW Used Spares - R200/unit

VW Centurion - R1122/unit (MOTHERF******R!!!! I want the strut, not the whole bloody boot lid !)

Ahhhh - I mades a plan !!!

Tonight I shall start military style precision removal exercises of the gas strut until I can do it with 1 hand, eyes closed and sub 5 seconds .... then, I'm taking my eldest daughter with me to Centurion Mall on Saturday. The next part might take a while - I need to then find a oke with a Passat or Jetta that's loading his groceries into the boot (see the lid has to be open already for this to work), I send above mentioned daughter to stroll past him and do the whole "I is lost, cans you help me ??" act ... now, while he is helping the poor young thing that is in distress, I sneaky sneaky gooi a arm in to his boot, replace his working shock with my tired one, and then give her the Team America secret sign to get out of there ! Obviously, I will need to do this twice before it can be labelled as a successful mission.

So be warned: if you have a Jetta or Passat, stay away from Centurion Mall this weekend !!!

I enquired about that, they said the oem shocks cannot be regassed as its a sealed unit. I dont know whether its true or they just want to make a sale though.. Also if the shock is leaking, a regas wouldnt be worth it
