Fuel additives
Are fuel additives e.g. Liqui Moly an effective way of cleaning the fuel system (injectors, intake valves, spark plugs) if used at the recommended intervals?

Re: Fuel additives
The car is 10 years old, has covered 85 000 kms and is used solely for city driving - never exceeding 70 km/h. I think that, used this way, there might be some form of contamination / carbon build up in the fuel intake system.

But is there anything wrong with it?Posthumus wrote:The car is 10 years old, has covered 85 000 kms and is used solely for city driving - never exceeding 70 km/h. I think that, used this way, there might be some form of contamination / carbon build up in the fuel intake system.

Re: Fuel additives
Nothing wrong that I know of - I asked the question about the effectiveness of fuel additives to be used to clean existing contamination and to prevent future contamination in order to maintain optimal performance / fuel consumption i.e. prevention being better than cure

Re: Fuel additives
We suggest using the NF Petrol Injector Cleaner or NF Diesel Injector cleaner every 10 tanks to maintain a clean fuel system. South African fuel is notoriously dirty. Clean the fuel system and injectors can restore lost power and throttle response.
For high mileage cars, we recommend running NF Injector Cleaner before servicing as dirt removed from fuel lines etc. are likely to end up in the fuel filter and therefore it's a good idea to have the fuel filter changed shortly afterwards.
As for a car that has never been over 70kph, I seriously recommend a good run on the highway (50km+) to burn out all the rubbish.

Re: Fuel additives
In all honesty I have never used any kind of fuel additive to fix a non existing problem so can't tell if it works or not.
But yes take the poor thing on a road trip and give it a little stick.
