Decat & bumper mod for 9n.

Post by herco »

Hey guys!

My post is two fold:

1. Are there any disadvantages in decatting my 07 1.6i polo? I am not satisfied with the sound, and might do a cat delete to get some more flow going. Might replace the mid box with a less restrictive one while they are at it...

2. On my comfortline model, you cannot see the exhaust from the rear. I want to have two little pipes come out, similar to the polo gti or the newer model polos. Is there a guide on a bumper mod, or someone in Pretoria/Gauteng that would be able to neatly modify my bumper?

Thanks in advance! :D

It's too cold in any case... :P I think my 2 stroke KTM would be a bigger concern than my polo tbh.

Just tell the exhaust place to lengthen the mounting peg on the back box so that it clears the existing bumper.

That was my plan, just scared its going to look **** when it peeks out below the bumper. Want it to look similar to this:

try get hold of a PGTI rear apron, already has the exhaust cutout and will be a nice visual upgrade.

and if you're at the exhaust place already cutting the cat out and swapping a box, might as well do a proper freeflow one time rather than a half job
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

Try hunting a few scrapyard. Vw wants R1300 for that small bit of plastic. I managed to find a replacement for R450 at a local scrapyard when I was looking. Did take a few weeks to find though.

Great idea idea!

I will delay the decat until I can find a rear apron. Now to look up some VW scrap yards in Pretoria. Polo GT and 9n3 Gti.

My 2 cents on the tips, just get them welded onto the back box. They can literally file the apron plastic to accommodate the tips.

Doesn't cost a cent. The GTi diffuser does look good, but I did what I said above on my old Polo, and it was done well, and looked good!

Thanks dude... It is something I am looking at doing. Might be a quick solution while I search for the proper apron.
