Hesitation on acceleration
Hi guys. Please help. I get a hickup/hesitation when accelerating. Whether engine hot or cold. This usually happens from standstill. This only happens when choke plate is fully open allowing maximum air into the carburetor. But when choke plate is partially closed I don't experience this problem. But the car lacks power this way.

Re: Hesitation on acceleration
Why are you opening the choke when the engine is hot? It sounds like your carb is not setup/tuned properly.

Yeah I think so too. Will it consume more fuel?Neuk wrote:Why are you opening the choke when the engine is hot? It sounds like your carb is not setup/tuned properly.

Re: Hesitation on acceleration
Slow ignition timing or accelrator pump in the carb not working or it is set way too lean or the seconds stage does not open.
Choke on a hot engine will tend to overfuel and is a bad habit.

Re: Hesitation on acceleration
A poorly tuned carb can lead to many things, poor fuel consumption being one of them.Khiba wrote:Yeah I think so too. Will it consume more fuel?Neuk wrote:Why are you opening the choke when the engine is hot? It sounds like your carb is not setup/tuned properly.

Re: Hesitation on acceleration
We had a similar problem with a 63 190 MB. The Solex carb had a mysterious air leak and even after being rebuild it was still running way to lean. so the choke was permanently +-1/4 closed / engaged. It was later solved by fitting the intake manifold & twin Solex carbs from a 66 200 MB.

Re: Hesitation on acceleration
Thanks for the responses guys. The carb was running too lean. Mechanic sorted it out.
