Is it possible to build a Vw 2l 8v Engine into a Kombi?

Post by vtroubleume »

Hi guys
Just wat to enquire, Is it possible to build a Vw 2l 8v (with unichip , modded cam ) Engine ,into a Vw Kombi? (the David Kramer one) or would the fuel consumption still be high vs the standard motors they come out with? I know about adaptor plates etc but has anyone done this conversion before?

VW themselves did a conversion kit which included a motor for the 2.1 boxer engined T3's. The flat four was prone to overheating and not very reliable. VW developed the kit based on the 2E engine and retained as much of the original parts as possible from the 2.1 including most of the Motronic EFI.

but that system gives endless problems, the old motronic EFI as found in the first gti mk3, rather fit mp9 loom and box and all the suporting parts or fit management and get it dynoed properly

I have even seen a T3 with Chevy V8, but have no clue what gearbox was used.
