Golf mk2 temp light

Hi guys...

Have a mk2 Gti 8v running a diktator.

Just wanna find out what the possible reasons could be for the dashboard temp light to suddenly start flashing.

Got stopped in a road block and when I started after and drove off, the temp light starting flashing. I switched it off on 3 separate occasions and the light went off but as soon as I drove off it comes on again.
The temp gauge is just over midway. Radiator fan seems to be working as normal. And water level in the reservoir seems fine.

I have the clock where the temp light sits between the battery light abs the oil light.

I just checked the oil dipstick as well and the oil level seems fine. Waiting for the car too cool off and will check oil and water level again.

What could cause the light to flash randomly apart from overheating. I haven't done anything on the cooling system lately not expecting any air lock or air bubbles in the system.

Check the sensor in the expansion bottle. Remove it and clean the metal legs with sandpaper. If it doesn't improve change the sensor

Hey Missioner, thanks for the advice.
I think all is sorted.

I was just being a dumba$$. I checked the car out last night in the dark and clearly didn't notice that the sensor plug came off the expansion bottle.

Refitted the plug this morning and all seems well.
