Golf 7 GTI Brakes

Post by ruler_70 »

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions regarding the front and rear brake pads on the Golf 7 GTI.

1. What is the original thickness of the pads (front and rear)?
2. At what thickness should they be changed?
3. Is there a noise indicator built in to the pads (I ask this because I know the sensor doesn't always work)
4. What brake pads should I fit (ie. Goldwagen sells Ferodo)
5. Where is Joburg north can I get well priced pads and where is the best place to get them fitted?

Thanks in advance!

1) no idea. never measure pads before
2) before they are metal to metal
3) no electrical sensor only
4) your favorite make. Ferodo is good
5) no idea. Goldwagen maybe. DIY.

According to Federal Mogul site, 20.2mm front and 16.6mm rear

so according to the thicknesses provided above, go down 10mm on the rear and about the same on the fronts if not more (maybe 12mm) and you have a minimum thickness. good indicator as to when your pads are close to the end of its life span.

ferodo is good, as well as ATE, Metelli, Febi-bilstein(if available) etc, all up to u and what your preference is.

After having numerous quality issues with EBC I now opt for Ferodo DS2500; an affordable pad that can be used for track use.

I think they're around R3000-R3500 fronts only.

Goldwagen sells Ferodo for under R800

Ate pads all the way, best value vs quality and oem supplier for many car brands, can't go wrong. Goldwagen normally stocks then.

Ended up choosing the Hella - Pagit pads, spoke to Ashley at GW Delarey, a bit more than the Ferodo, will see how they are and provide feedback.

The fronts will be up for replacement soon as well, should I use the same brand?

Awesome service from Ash @ GW Delarey.
Out of curiosity,
Why do you say they are awesome? You hadn't yet tested them as yet as you had them installed the same time you said they awesome?
Or have you had previous experience with them?

Any update regarding these now?

I installed surebrake pads on my daily, bought from Goldwagon as well.
Seem to be doing ok after 1 month, although this is on a 1.4 utility and no speeding etc is done on it.

He fitted rears and giving feedback on them now and fitted Pagid on fronts as well. Not sure if you can feel difference on rears vs same on fronts.
