Anyone DIY car Headliner???

Post by Howie-WP »

So my mk3 GTi needs a new headliner, old one is sagging. I have goggled and downloaded a few DIY's of the 'net. Seems easy enough, just time consuming.

Anyone done this? In for real world tips

Found the liner at Kehls @R88/m (1mx1.4m).....glue? Seen overseas they use 3M 77 (found on TakeAlot @ R602!)

Haven't done it myself, but seen some guys use the spray on glue like you get at the craft shops.

Try Superfloral in Paarden Eiland for the glue...

I did mine on a polo. start In the middle. if you're using contact adhesive let both sides dry before sticking it together, or it will forever stay tacky. a second set of hands helps. try and get material that is foam backed, it just feels better, but you cant stick it then pull it off if you get a crease or if the material is not aligned properly.

I am also doing / going to use a "heavier" automotive material for the headliner (thinner layer of foam).

Seeing on youtube, prep is the most important, so likely gonna remove the liner and prep board and then later install.

also planning a DIY on my Ibiza FR's headlining.

Will be interesting to see how everyone gets on with theirs.

Definitely not a 5min job but will be worthwhile.
