Tyres for 1.9 TDI 96KW

Post by dylanphelan »

Hi

So I have a 1.9 TDI 96KW Highline. 4 Door. 2009.

I busted a tyre today and it couldnt be fixed. I know that I need to put new tyres on soon.

Looking for some recommendations. Currently have the hankook ventus v12 on. I initially felt that they were a little noisy, but the car handled well. (and they look pretty cool haha).

Let me know what you think and if you know of any specials on.

Also - they are 205/45/16
That doesn't seem like a very common size. excuse my ignorance, but do I need to use exactly the same size?

I do like to accelerate and feel the torque which obviously affects tyre choice and wear.

thanks! Hope this is the right section of the forum.

Hey bud moved to general technical.

I went with Michelin Pilot Sport and was very happy with the grip.

We await other replies...

Thanks.

I'm still seeing good reviews for the hankook ventus v12 - apparently there's a newer version out.

Not many prices on this tyre size available online

This will probably not be a popular choice but I did 95 000km on these. I bought them a second time as well. Maybe not the best for spirited driving but I used to drive the 74kw.

95000 - that's alot. I've only done 38000 on the hankook v12's
haven't driven a newer 74kw, but have an old 2001 74k golf in Ireland and was quite surprised with the difference between that and the one I have here

My car (sportline - rk stage2) used to eat tyres on the 16" rims. Traction was an issue with falken and dunlop tyres.

I then fitted 17" rims and tried a set of import tyres, now I dont have any traction problems at all. For an import set, they grip well on wet and dry roads, and theres no handling problems either. They are also quite pothole friendly lol. (That is just my experience with them)

If u in Durban, u can contact a friend of mine (0722629673) who owns a tyre shop - u can check what they have, they have a sale going on at the moment on their import tyres and it comes with some sort of warranty..

Thanks for all the feedback.

I called goodhope tyres this morning, they recommended the Dunlop SP 7000D @ R850

Some mixed reviews on here viewtopic.php?f=94&t=159612

They look pretty similar to the HK V12

Best price I've got on the Hankook V12 is R1500

I see my spare is a conti sport contact 2 - I could also get a 2nd one and stick it on the front. Only really need another front at the moment. Although prob best to just do them all. My HK12's still look alright to me, although - the one is busted

Dunlop - No
Goodyear Eagle F1 ASY3 or Michy Pilot Sport - Pricey but well worth it and will grip nicely for torquey FWD cars and very good handling in the wet

These look pretty cool as well (I had only been looking at the original HK V12) The ones below are not listed on the coza website

http://www.hankooktire.com/us/passenger ... -k120.html

Apparently a newer version of the ones i have.

TWT quoted the same as the original HK Ventus V12

What this man said... by far the best place to buy tyres in Cape Town, I wouldn't bother going anywhere else.

Thanks - so I called them, didn't managed to speak to Wahib. He wasn't available. The guy i spoke to, sorry don't recall his name now.

He recommended the Michelin PS 3 Over the Hankook V12 Evo 2 K120.

http://www.michelin.co.za/ZA/en/tyres/p ... ort-3.html

The PS 3's work out to R1400 more for 4 tyres.

I do kinda prefer the look of the Hankooks, but I suppose that's not the best call to make a decision on :bang:

Did they let you know what other tyres they have in stock in that size?

To be honest when I looked at tyres for my MK5, IE's prices were at least R700 Less per tyre than competitors pricing. Maybe phone TWT and ask them to price PS'3 for the same profile and see if there is a pricing difference.

Yeah those little f'rs eat tyres!

My favourite tyres I ran was Goodyear F1 and Yoki AR01 A Drives. The OE German Dunlops were great but lasted under 20k.

So- I'll order either this afternoon or tomorrow, narrowed it down to these. Just waiting for another quote or two:

goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2
goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 3
https://www.errolstyres.co.za/tyre/good ... ric-2/7910
R1581

The above - even version 2 seems to come out tops in most review sites

michelin pilot sport 3

Conti SportContact™ 5

Hankook Ventus V12 Eco 2 (K120)

Anyone tried the Mich PS3 AND the F1 Asymms

Wahib supplied and fitted the Asym 2's on Wookie, very happy with them and likely be replaced with 3's when needed.

I never managed to speak to Wahib, the guy i spoke to recommended the Mich PS3 - didnt mention the asymms.

I did email them asking to quote on the asymms - still waiting on that.
