Golf 7 1.4TSI Question

Post by RussDix »

Morning all,

I recently had my car fixed and serviced, the replaced the coils and 1 or 2 other minor things but now on Saturday the EPC light came on so I pulled over switched the car off and started it again and the EPC light was out, luckily I was not far from home but then the check engine light started flashing, in the manual it says it is a fault with the catalytic converter.
From research I have done so far it seems like there is a problem with the rings, and oil could be getting past and blocking the cat or what else could be causing it?
What makes me think its the rings is the car seems to be using quite a lot of oil.
Does anybody have a rough estimate of what it is going to cost me to fix it if I need to replace the piston and rings and the cat or can the cat be cut out and dummy sensors put in?

Appreciate the help
Thanks

How old is the car? If it is still within warranty or Automotion plan I suggest heading back to your local dealership.

Aaah, that won't help then. I am not sure if the Mk7 Golf 1.4TSi had the same piston/ring issues as some previous TFSi/TSi motors but the repairs to the older generation motors was expensive. Where are you based?

If you are in the East, maybe @panic mechanic can help you out, even by just taking a look at the car.

I wonder though if you were to approach VW, they wouldn't not help you on Goodwill.
Maybe try and see what they said.

Was the car serviced at the dealerships even after the warranty expired?

It had one service after the warranty expired that was not at the dealership but otherwise they have all been done by the dealership.
I am going to take it in and see what they say, at least to get a diagnostics done

Doubt you will get anything right on a goodwill claim because the last service wasn't done by a vw dealer.

I'm sitting with the same problem, even got the Cat removed thinking it would help.. Kinda weary of sending it to Vw cause of their extreme pricing. Panic mechanic is this something you could tackle? :D
