other diagnostic tools besides vagcom

Post by mellos »

Good day

Is anyone on the forum using any other diagnostic or fault finding tools
besides the vagcom to diagnose or reset faults on their vw's?
If so what are you using and what are the capabilities of it.
I'm just curious as there are a lot of other diagnostic tools/equipment
on the market.
Thanks....

Do a bit of a search. But in short, if you want the best diagnostic for VAG, get a vagcom. It really is worth it. Getting a genuine cable is expensive at first, but its for life.

Your other option is OBDeleven. You can even do some coding on the car.

Stay away from the generic junk. Those are only code readers, and many times don't even show the correct info.

And they are oders of magnitude more expensive.
Obeleven has been talked about and appears to have most of the functionality but I have yet to see somebody actually use it or get some real feedback from owners of it.

I've seen Odis diagnose a 7R not starting after vcds failed. Busy trying to find a legit supplier of Odis online. I've so far found that local diagnostic suppliers priced around 3grand are selling packages that look alot like eBay R800
specials. Any ideas where to buy and whats the price of legit Odis Online?

Delphi is a generic code reader. It will not do what the specific for the make stuff do like vagcom/odis/vas does.

I use a Delphi 150E at work. It's ok as a fault code reader with some programming and diagnostic functions that works over a wide number of vehicles, but it's not brand specific. In this regard it's great value.

I have used VCDS also and on VWAG family models it's as good as you can get.

So if you ONLY work on Volkswagen vehicles then VCDS, but like me are not brand specific then the Delphi system is a value for money option.

Appart from vcds I use an app called iOBD2-VW by Xtools.
Much more functional than the generic readers. Layout is very similar to vcds, including access all the VAG specific measuring blocks.

Ok, so managed to get this Vag 401 Xtool from ebay for ~ R700 via my sister in the UK.
Has anyone used this before on a 1.8t, apart from reading and clearing codes.
I need to cycle the abs pump while doing a brake flush and bleed. I'm hoping for better braking, to get that firm feeling back in the pedal and clear the G214 "Brake Pressure Sensor" Fault.
