A kind bloke on www.R32OC.com was good enough to haul out an old camera he had and confirmed the wiring order

Not sure how I'm going to keep the wiring attached without the weatherproof jacket, as it acted as a clip. Anyway, will give it a try this weekend.

Yes, that's the plan. Don't think it will have enough grip. But hopefully...

Possibly try using some hot glue to create a housing for the individual cables and them some silicone to hold the assembly in place.

VW Rear View Camera (RVC) - no image on display

Finally got plugs from RS. Min order of 5 so have some spare...
Amazingly they were the right ones, although I did have to cut the slight protrusion off the one side

Image

Image

Also got some adhesive shrink tube (3m, used 15cm!)

Image

As the heat shrink does not bend, and to hopefully avoid a future similar issue, I cut the wire opening quite a bit, to let the wires completely clear the housing when the camera moves in and out. It looks big but the action of the camera brings the wires within a mm of the housing

Image

All working again!

If I'd just cut the weatherproof collar off in the first instance, it would have been such a quick fix...

After the car was at the panel beater, it came back with the same issue.
Wiggling the camera feed wire got a camera display on and off, so I have the same issue again, no doubt a different wire this time. :bang: :bang:

Suspect I'm going to have to get a replacement camera from carsystems sooner or later. At least they sell just the camera (actually just need the wiring bit) but it's still a big outlay at €214.00.
And judging by their "BESTSELLER" tag, this is common issue, which I will probably have again, even with a new camera, in five or six years...
