2011 VW Polo Cross TDI

Hi Guys

I purchased myself a Cross Polo a month or so back and I am having an issue with noise coming from inside the car, I have noticed that you can hear it best in the leg space under the glove compartment. It sounds like a pulley that's struggling to turn and the car was sent back to the dealers to be checked out. They said they could not find any issues in the engine bay, now I'm starting to think it may be something to do with the aircon. The sound does not speed up when i drive, but it is louder sometimes and then sometimes very soft.

I don't know what to do regarding finding the issue?

Ill see if there is a way to upload the audio, i just need some advice

Press the aircon recirculation button and see if the noise starts or stops, if it does check under the dash while pressing the button there could be something blocking the flap.

Thank you for the reply, I had a look now under the dash when pressing the circulation the flap seems to open and close without any problems. The noise is there when the aircon is off and even when the vents/airflow is on the 0 setting. I did however notice that the sound seems to stop when the aircon is turned on, or maybe I just can't hear the sound when it's turned on, I'll just check on this again when i get home this afternoon.

Any other ideas?

No, the interior fan & cabin filter all sits that side so I suspect it can only be that. unless it is actually on the engine side and you hear it through the firewall.

Thanks ill check again later. The engine was checked out twice by the dealer's mechanic and they said there is nothing they can find that would be the cause of the sound.

I have uploaded the audio clip if anyone wants to listen, just turn up the volume to hear it seeing as its a bit soft.

Okay so i have not solved the above mentioned issue, but i have another question, after i turn off my polo and i remove the key i hear 4 clicking sounds coming from the engine bay . . . Its always four in a row and its almost like a "tik, tok, tik ,tok".

Anyone else who might have come across this before?

It's probably just solenoids/relays that's going through their shut down process, I wouldn't think much of it.

Check the recirc valve, same issue on the Mk5. Even with blower / aircon off you ended up with the noise. The valve / worm gear is faulty and causes the noise. Also that side of the cabin.

thank you for your feedback, I just want to confirm if its a "recirc valve", I could not find anything on google and i would like to send the dealer an email to ask if they will check if it maybe the problem as you described

He then told me the sound is coming from my aircon and its caused by the circulation of the aircon gas and unfortunately, there is nothing they can do to fix it.

so, in short, the noise will be there forever. . . .

I have a similar whining noise coming from my ac as well. Its more of an annoyance than an actual problem at the moment. Apparently its quite common and Barons has no idea how to fix it. AC specialists should be able to sort it out though. I stopped at a Radio Autosonic once to test and they said it could be a faulty expansion valve but advised me to get a second opinion. Havent gotten around to it yet. Other guys have said that changing one of the tensioners/pulleys resolved the issue for them. Not sure of details.

Has a noise coming from there. Turned out to be the engine mounting

I'm going to find an RMI dealer to have a look at the AC seeing as I still have a 1-year warranty on the vehicle so ill would like to get it repaired. It's just difficult to get a repair quote when you're not 100% sure what the problem is.

I also noticed in this week there is now a soft whistling noise also coming from around the area.
