Caravelle T5 R/H rear sliding door limit error - Fixed

Did a few checks to find the cable routing. Connector under driver seat has 3 wires, white, brown and blue. Top of door where wires pass over on bracket in to the door is only brown and blue, this the white is a common somewhere on the slider on top. Need to strip it to verify.

I found that the door can close from the switch in the dash. Press once and press again and hold down until door is fully closed. The wire passing through the rubber (also called the trap sensor wire) is there to stop the door from closing if it touches something.

My theory now is that the door open limit on the micro switch on the lock is not latching and then preventing the door to be able to close as it does not see the open limit or the trap sensor wiring is open circuit.

By performing the inside button pressing twice and hold till the door is fully closed, the control unit overrides the trap sensor in the rubber and think there is nothing in the way of the door (no hands in the way as hand or finger is used to press the close button).

Trying to find a wiring diagram for the switch wiring now.

Armed with a multimeter today and started to measure for continuity between the sensor (transponder) and the Yellow and blue plug under the drivers seat. Walla.........Open circuit.


Two options now: (1) order a new one from VW (Part no: 7H0843436Q @ R2763 + VAT) and install or (2) Replace wiring (Rewire) with same gauge wiring as existing from the bottom of drivers seat to the sensor end inside the door rubber.

Wires are most probably broken inside where the wires fold over on to the bracket towards the door as this is where there is flexible movement each time the door is operated.


One side clip into the socket at the roller and other end is passing through the door post to below the drivers seat.

Decided to do some more checks today and found wear on the transponder.


Checked the micro switches on the door lock too and the one in the picture is not always latching.

If you got vag-com you could also try the read measure value blocks as that will tell you whats reading and what its reading. The pinch protection rubber and wire harness at top is what usually gives a problem.

I don't have vag-com to read values. I'm off to work in Brazil for 5 weeks. This have to wait till then now.

Dealerships generally don't have time (and skills in some cases) for proper fault finding. They normally look for the obvious fault and want to replace item. Goodluck with your fix, seem to be applying common sense approach, lack of which is normally the issue.....

Thanks, Aslam, I spoke to Liaan on Friday and took Caravelle in this this morning. Got a call now that the problem was found and a replacement rubber with sensor will be there tomorrow. Great service from Liaan and Morne. Got updates and calls throughout the morning on what was found and done sofar.

Agreed, some only know how to change the oil and fit filters. I'm glad this is sorted now by people that can actually do the technical stuff.
