Wheel speed sensor(ABS) for mk2 rear wheel

Post by Rabbit16v »

Maybe someone knows

Want to retrofit a wheel speed sensor(ABS sensor) onto a mk2 rear disc setup.

Is there a abs ring that would fit this setup ?

Maybe one of the goldwagen gents would know/or can check

Hi, only want the abs speedring and the sensor, for the one rear wheel (mk2 rear disc)
This is for vehicle speed, not abs, so don't need the rest.

And too add to this, is there anything similar that would fit a mk1 front wheel setup ?

I've got this on my LS, Norbrake Challenge spec rear disc setup using GTi 4 hubs, comes with the ABS ring.

Cool, but I prefer using a sensor setup that i can just add to what I am already using.
Mk1 front with bigger discs and mk2 rear disc setup.

Ok, you are looking into fitting the rear speed sensor and ring to give a speed reading? How would you go about fitting the sensor through the hub to be able to sense the pulses from the ring. Special bracket or mark out and drill position for the sensor on existing hub? Are you going for an electronic dash that uses a pulsed signal for speed indication?

Bigger front disk still would not have a mounting place for the speed sensor if deciding to put the speed sensor on the front wheels of the mk2 hubs unless you change to VR6 hubs that is equiped with the position where the speed sensor fit.

Why complicate things? You can use the new spec dash pulse speed sensor from a Velocity in a 020 gearbox and wire that up to give you speed inside on the electronic dash speedo.
Not so clear picture of the Velocity pulse speed sensor fitting to 020 gearbox.
Image

If it is on a 02a box it is a bit of a different story and would require a pulse sensor that sits on the diff section.

If you are using a later model gearbox like say the 02j, you will need to use a speed sensor and sensor disk either on a rear hub or front hub to be able to give you a speed indication.

Tell us more what gearbox you are using and will this be installed in a mk1 or mk2. (mk1 front with bigger disks and mk2 rear disk setup) - Confused now.

Its for traction control, making extra brackets is not a problem.
Preffer using the current mk1 hubs as allot of work already went into the current setup.
Sensor mounting is not a problem, more worried about the pickup ring, finding one that would require the least amount of effort to make fit, preferably a straight press on fit
I'm on holiday at the moment so no access to the vehicle, by sound of things, rear is sorted, front will have to look, just thought someone might have the bits handy to measure, or have done something like this before.

Both Febi and Meyle have the outer hub with the trigger ring mounted on it.

Have a look at the following part numbers when you have time and then need to measure them up to see which would suit your needs for the best fit to what you need.
Meyle 4 Stud 100 407 0074
Febi 01901

You are getting the flat faced ring where the sensor tip is on the bottom and then the side faced one that is sensing on the side of the sensor with the folded ring gaps on the ring like the Golf 3 type. Double check if you need a hall effect or magnetic type

You should be able to get these rings loose from GW or atleast with the outer hub part.

This thread just made me realize that I would not have the same worries as you for speed indication if I decide to go for an 02j gearbox upgrade from an 020 rod shift gearbox. I've got Golf 4 struts on the front and Polo disks on the rear on my Caddy with the spacer rings and ABS sensors.

Thanks for the  idea.

Jip can think of allot better ways for speed indication.
Which this is not for.

You want to do for traction control from what I read higher up in your post. Would that not be best then to install on front wheel to detect wheelspin or are you going to install on front and rear and then be able to compare a difference in wheel speed and make a traction control correction that way? That's how traction control is done in cars by comparing speed difference between wheels. Just on rear for traction control when pulling with front wheels, is that right?

Just so some of the newer members have some idea of this little blue mk 1.

This was one of if not stil one of the fastest best looking mk1s around. Many moons ago it made well over 400 hp regularly. IIRC did close to or over 230 around Gerotec. Mike has forgotten more about turbos, management and 20v than what most of us knows.

Nice to see that you still around and well!
