Looking at tightening the rear of my car up, feels a bit unstable on the bends.

Not sure how something like this would impact roll? In my mind it would have to be attached to the actual chassis no? since that bar is attached to the rear control arms and moves with the suspension?



Anyone have other suggestions?

Maybe get new shocks? The rear suspension on the Cupra should be toooit!

If you do the lower ARB do a strut brace in the boot as well!

OOh that's nice... Shocks are fine, but these cars definitely do need some help at the rear because of the design of the suspension...

I'll probably go ARB and poly bushes. I want to do this before coilies so that the difference isn't masked by the coilovers.

A rear ARB attaches to the rear axle. Not the chassis.



It has a major impact on body roll. Will massively change the handling of the vehicle.

Neuk had this setup on his Polo TDI. Maybe he can give more info on the benefits of this rear ARB.

Seeing it is called a ARB...... it is Anti roll by virtue of it's name

Eliminating side to side as well as body roll by bracing the axle. The one I posted for my car does not bolt onto the chassis. It's solely connected to the axle(moving part), which I can't understand. It might aid in strengthening the axle but how would it impact roll?

It stiffens the rear axle and prevents flexing. When you corner that increased rigidity will help plant the outside wheel down on the ground.

The single biggest upgrade to the handling on any of my cars came from fitting the rear ARB and front lower strut brace. On a Citi it's an instant handling upgrade.

Not debating that it works bud Just trying to explain the reason for my question.

My civic from 1998 even had independent rear suspension Disappointed with the design from VW.

Designs been fine since the 1970's why change it?

This is also on a rear wheel drive car, and as a result the roll geometry is fundamentally different from a front wheel drive car. The above setup has to help with traction as well. The original pic works for a FWD car as you are only controlling roll to help with turn due to reduced weight transfer.

I totally understand what you are asking here.... because I asked myself the same thing when I first fitted a rear ARB to my Citi Golf.

You are looking at it and thinking... if the axle is a single piece... the two wheels don't move independent of each other... so then... WTF is another straight bar going to do by being attached to another straight bar...

BUT trust me... once fitted... the handling is completely different!

The rear just becomes planted to the ground in the bends, you get so much confidence! Eventually the only thing that happens is the front end scrubbing across the road (Understeer) as they lose grip way before the rear does.

If you look at that picture of the rear ARB and imagine what happens when you corner... you can see that the bar will apply an opposing force to the other side of the axle as the chassis rolls the other way...its that opposing force that helps to resist the body rolling and gives you that extra stability at the rear.

The rear ARB is definitely on my to do list for the Cupra!
