vw estas cam

Post by mafosta »

Good day fellas. please help me identify an estas cam. The following info is stamped on the gearbox side of the cam shaft; 037D LYC1. I need to know the specs. i have tried the search function and the net to no avail.
I realise a topic without pictures is worthless so i will post some tonight

Please see pictures below, the cam shaft has a bit of surface rust which im gonna take care of. The identifying marks are clearly visible and when compared to a G can the difference is evident.

Thanks for the responses, I see Nelli's is also on the forum and will contact him for advice.

Oh one more question, is it advisable to use this cam on a high compression motor?

037D identifies it as a 5 journal, hydraulic semi finished cam. LYC1 code can trace it to year, month, day and shift that it was manufactured. That cam was locally ground to a "276H" and engraved as such.

 Damn!
That's what Experts do.

I can see the one on the left hand lifts longer
Does this provide a softer punch on the h/lifter, and push back by lift spring?

Please help!
I'n no mechanic, just curious!

Nellis is the resident cam expert, yes. What he does not know about cams is not worth knowing to start with!
