Removing 9N3 wiper arm

Post by Crawler »

I am trying to remove the wipers to get under rain try to clean out and unblock sun roof drains.

How does one remove the arms (not only blades)

I removed the nuts, but the arm will not pull off, feels like I am going too pull the whole arm with motor out?

Is there something else or a trick?

Thanks a lot

With the rear wiper you pull for like 3 days to get it off. Goodluck bud

The front are extremely difficult to to remove. I actually broke mines trying. There is a tool you can use thought. Its quiet a simple gadget:

Its a like a u shaped metal piece with a tread bar running through it..as you tighten the thread bar it lifts up behind the the wiper..

Sorry if this doesnt make much sense maybe the image will help:

Just loosen the bolts, with the bonnet open of courses..... Close the bonnet, lift up the wiper arms at the blades like you would wash your car and pull at the arms as straight as possible......

They fit into each other with grooves, spray some lube if necessary

I was broke for months after the wedding so only done some stuff in the last six months. FMIC, new spec headlights + Phillips HID, cupra lip, Pilot Sport 3s, gloss roof + mirrors, lots of maintenance, RK motion, 6.5 inch head unit, re-did the speakers, battery box to name a few.
If I keep it for longer then I might start a thread.

Bought a Wiper arm removal tool today from Midas (on their festive promo) was only R65, good to have.

To remove my wiper arms, I did the following as mines was also stuck.

1. I removed the nut, sprayed inside on the splines with penetrating oil.

2. Put the nut back on with just a few threads, don't take out your wiper blade, then I pushed and pulled the wiper arm in a see saw motion. The nut will prevent it from suddenly flying out, it will slowly start to come out, be patient and spray more penetrating oil as you go along. It took me about half an hour or so for both wipers.

3. Once it is most of the way out, because the spline that holds the wiper is narrow on the top, you can remove the nut and pull the wiper and wiper arm out smoothly.

4. Another thing is when putting the wiper arm back, don't force it in as the splines get wider in the bottom, just push it until it is snug, then put the nut above and tighten it, it will push itself down into the splines.

If you do get the wiper out, and get under by the sunroof drains, cut off the edge of the rubber grommet with a scissor as it is like an x with a very small hole that frequently gets clogged, so to prevent future blockages, cut it out and you will have a much bigger hole with no restrictions which dirt can smoothly flow out off!

I don't understand why the sunroof has a restriction like that, most probably German over engineering.
