What to do - Cone with ducting/air box with ducting

Hi guys

I recently had mp9 fitted to my 1600 carb which came with an airtech cone filter. During the day i can feel that the car under performs due to the sucking of the hot air in the engine bay, but at night runs much better , but still sucking hot air, so should i opt 4 ducting 4 the cone / air box with ducting.

Please say cone option as i love the sound of it, but ultimately i'll go 4 whatever gives me more power. :;):

Well if you love the noise it makes, your best bet is to build some sort of height shield box for the cone to sit in with a pipe out to cold air (there was a pic of it in another Post). The std airbox with a free flow filter in actually works just as well and is stacks quieter. Put a ram tube on the std box and its quieter still (which is the way I run mine). The noise a cone makes is fun for a while but can get a little off pissing with time.

1. How much did it cost in total?
2. How long did it take?
3. Are you happy with it?
I RELLY wnna do that but I just want to get all the facts first..
Hope you don't mind

I think i'll go 4 the standard air box with panel filter and some ducting as that probably keeps cool air flowing when car in motion. Just have to give golfwagen a call and find if they have an air box 4 me.

Thanx again Super Stu :;):

You can go past a scrap yard and pick up an air box as well, will be cheaper. A Polo or a Citi golf one will both fit, make sure you get the pipe that goes with the ait box as well, makes life LOTS easier.

Pleasure. Oh BTW what is the power difference like?

standard box with flat panel filter and (?) some ducting would be by far the easier and cheaper option. but, again, if u want to keep the cone, try to get hold of some heat shielding material and install it around the cone to prevent it from sucking hot air. also, u might want add some ram air pipes to blow some cold air onto it. but, i'm repeating super stu now.......
i think frederic still has some ducting left he was selling, drop him a line if u need some...

Im running a cone with ducting....

Retained the wicked sound and forcing some cold air through.

Having the best of both worlds!

I still have some of the 125mm ducting left and it works well, ask Firoz & Nazmie!!

Im running the ducting over the biggest part of the cone where i fastened it with cableties and running it underneath the front bumper tied to the airvents.

Im still getting some of the engine air as well , but i am inthe process of having a plate cut to use as partitioning.

So basically , we are in the same boat.

Thanks NOS...

Have you got the number of Wayne in Honeydew? I REALLY want it done properly - you know? So if I can't find anyone here in Cape Town then I will rail my car down and do the conversion when I come down to JHB later in the year... I know its far but I don't mind if the quality is EXCELLENT...

Yip , like i said Best of both worlds , to a certain extent.

Still need to do the partitioning though to make sure that its only cold air going into the filter.

Dont you just love that sound???
