Battery light staying on 2.0 16v

what could the problem be here, it goes on for long periods of time and then all of a sudden goes off, alternator ? if so any idea on how much it would cost to replace

Def your altinator , I had the same prob the other night , but my fan belt snapped off, have ur alternator checkout.

Does it start if you leave it for more than an hour? Light on the dashboard means your battery isnt charging for some reason, check battery, and test the alternator.

when I had mine replaced in my Opel (yes.. I admit I had an opel) a reconned one cost me around R450.

howzit gents,
one thing you can check before pulling out he alternator is removing the regulator at thr rear of the altenator and check the brushes,check their length compared to a new one,got 2 small screws that hold it in , normally black and white in colour.failing that have the alt tested.

I must agree with DON on ths one....I had a few alternators with the same problm...Light stayed on...Whn I had it checkd out all thse guys cld say was...replace/recon alternator..
I then jus went home and replaced regulator...wrks like a dream!! try it..I recmkon thats ur problem!!
