So do the WCOTY judges ignore these "minor" issues despite them really ruining the owners' experience of the car? Or it also has to do with these issues not affecting safety and reliability of the car?

No, SA gets the crappy 1.4TSI motor, Europe gets the 1.4TSI with ACT which does not have this problem.

Europe also gets a radio with DAB so no problem with signal.

I sat in a Mk7 again today..a trendline..and I was reminded again how good the fit and finish is.

Believe you me, they do rigorous testing, some 800km - 1200km's per day over a period of 4 months before a car is released! The funny thing is each and every person that tests the cars, need to have a right up of what was experienced and are qualified mechanics, what I do know though, is if a common problem is picked up just before a release, VW will release the vehicle and start with a solution to the issue, this can take up to 3 - 4 months. :bang:
It's actually MUCH more than that..close to a million km's..the problem is the testers are either deaf or does not care about rattles, squeaks etc...

Not in this country its not, in S.A they only do about 800 - 1200km's per day! Load the car with water bottles and data loggers and off they go.....

I remember when I was in the factory in PE and the 96KW Sportline had just come out, they had about 18 cars that were stuffed! All with about 120 000 - 160 000km's on, turbos gone.

Had my clipped installed, still seem to be having the same problem but the rattle is not as long as it used to be. So what I can conclude is this is not a 100% fix.

Still not sure the Mk6 clip will work on the mk7. Some say aye, some say nay. Until we see a pic of the Mk7 clip, can't say.

Well my car made it to Cape Town in one piece and it was the most enjoyable drive I have ever had down to the coast. Dispite the wastegate rattle and bad radio reception (which by the way seems to work much better outside of a city) it makes up for it in so many other ways. Fuel consumption is epic and the ride quality is outstanding even with all the roadworks going on the N1. I am a happy chappy.

lol, I can't actually believe they still have the waste gate actuator rattle. Are these people stupid? They invent a clip for the Mk6 to stop the rattle, so clearly they know it's an issue, but then the new model has the same problem! Sigh...

Had an interesting call from the dealership where I bought my car from. Apparently VW has now finally acknowledged the 2 faults with the radio and the wastegate. The parts to fix them will now become available for ordering through their system. And the dealership will get in contact with me once they have them and so that they can be installed.

What these parts are, I don't know. But I will keep you guys informed when they are installed and if they work.

the fix is the clip from the mk5/A3 which is temporary, found out from VWSA after my meeting yesterday they are busy with a permanent fix which should be ready in the next few weeks/months. I have the temporary fix which works but not 100%, its a lot better than what it was.

I told vwsa's MD in my correspondence to his office that their workshop practices and methods of repair lead me to believe that they are worse then backyard mechanics. They keep on proving my point again and again.

I have received my response today saying that VWSA is working on the problem and will provide a solution, as soon as they provide my branch with a solution they will be contacting me with regards to the fix as this is high priority on their list...

Other than that I must just Add the car itself minus the noise is awesome, it definitely is car of the year, i am loving it.
