Oh you bought it at Mike's... that would make it an ABA... I think, but I'm not sure... yo probably check with Mike...

My advice would be to start with another engine... but seeing as that's possibly not an option, just start with the usual... breathing in and out... ie: airfilter, exhaust and all the little pipes and bits on either side...

Really? Based on what?

Is better advice not to ask the original poster what his intentions are with the car - does he want a faster daily that is a bit quicker or does he want a screamer of a track day car that he will 'live' with on a daily basis. Do we know what his budget is? Just because a 16v makes more power stock for stock than an 8v does not mean the best motor for every application is the more powerful one.... some people just smaak 8v's....some people are too risk averse to go the 16v route afraid of the cost of repairs when things break etc etc etc...

See my point?

Here is some interesting reading around the whole 8v/16v debate, should you be interested in reading it.

Well larry, you see I'm somewhat intuitive...

The OP has 2 posts to his name...so not a real enthusiast/trackday racer etc... I'm guessing he wants his car a little faster than it is and can't afford much... so my advice is probably best for his wants based on his presumed budget...

Just like I'm guessing your outrage at my comment about starting with another engine may be because you're a tad biased...

Hey Bud

first off welcome to the forum. hope you enjoy your stay here. Perhaps start a rides thread and show us your ride. This will also allow you to track your mods and see the progress. Rides

Far as i am aware the ABA is a cross flow 2.0L 8v and the ADY is a U flow. Link

Why don't you give us a bit more details like. Do you have a branch? free flow? Then tell us is the car going to be an everyday driver or is this
going to be a weekend toy? This way guys can give you better advice and point you in the right direction.

Good Luck bud

The usual mods are exhaust and bigger cam ie 276 or bigger with mapping to accomodate.
If you have an Mp9 airbox then just detrumpet the thing and leave the stock airfilter in their.

You could then also flow the head etc if you want to go further.

If you will not be using it as a daily drive then you could go to the next extreme and do throttles for even more power

Hi guys thanx for giving some advise yes i upgraded from a normal 1.4I engine to the 2litre engine but as time goes on i realise the car becomes slower as you get used to your motor. i do use it as a everyday car, but i also would like more power. i will post a pic of the car and the motor asap. At the moment everything is stock standard , no powerflow, no branches just standard.

Theres another thing when i bought the motor i had to buy the 2litre cup ecu box. A guy did a diagnostic test and only problem was a faulty map sensor. so at the moment im running rich on fuel and the car eats fuel like nothing. I eventually bought the map sensor at " big boys toyz" and took it back again for diagnostics. well can you believe it - the map sensor error was still there , the guy told me that maybe its a pirate part , im clueless what should i do now?

Rather get an orignal map sensor or try 2 get a 2nd hand orignal one that's working. There's so much u can do with a 8v. A lot of people just go 16v but double your budget for that. Anyways ABA is a cross flow motor and was only available for the States. Not sure if importing places have them. Only way to check the engine number is on the engine itself or on the receipt for the engine itself. U shouldve have cleared the engine by now if you driving it around.

Another option is to go ITBz but you have to go aftermarket management
