9n3 Polo - Problem - (ABS)(!) and car resets

Post by Silverbird_96Kw »

Ok so I've used the search thingy: but no fix to the problem

http://www.vwclub.co.za/phpbb3/viewtopi ... =3&t=99583

Mine started with the (ABS) and (!) light, checked all the batt terminals and those thats on top off the batt - cleaned them all and attached it again all was fine untill it started doing it again when i went to the shops. When I came back to the car, the car didnt want to unlock with the remote so had to use the key in the door to unlock it, then I saw the car reset itself with the clock etc, now this has been happening now for a while...

Took it to VW the first time it happend and the guy connected his laptop to the car and it showed no errors.

Please help, maybe someone had past experiences of this happening?

That sounds like power shortage of some sort - check all the power connections and earth straps. There is also one on the power steering.
VGTI wrote:http://www.vwclub.co.za/phpbb3/viewtopi ... 3&t=136968

If it's the pump the it will be dead/heavy all the time. Most likely a bad connection somewhere. Bad earth will most likely give other errors too, like ABS etc.
So check the flat fuses on top of the battery and all the sensor cables.

I had the exact same issue! Kept on happening every time I washed the car. I tightened up the earth from the battery and it seems to have "cured" it. My power steering would cut out if I was making a U-turn sometimes and ABS light would flash and ping and I used to get the "locked out of the car" issue often. Try redo that main battery earth that attaches to the body behind the battery on the wheel well and monitor it. It was pissing me off so bad!!!

Can it be possible that he might need a new batery ?? As he said he already checked all connections ??

Just asking / raising the thought

Had the same problem, mine was fixed by tightening the cables at the battery properly.
That fixed it for me.

When checking the earth straps make sure to check the power steering earth.. quite a common issue on the 9N.

Hey guys, i have this same issue. Mine is weird though. Drive on a weird incline with a slight turn or reverse down one causing the car fo have an ‘incorrect’ bounce then the abs, powersteering light will illuminate and the car would also idle weirdly. Interestingly when this happens, my trip mileage goes to 0 and that tells me theres a disconnection at that moment at the battery. Switch the car off and back on, the speedo would be dead, repeat process then car starts. I sprayed all terminals with cleaner and anti corrosion stuff, tightened everything and it seems fine now. Just want to know if anyone else’s issue persisted or is it the earth cable thats the devil?

Did you check the blade fuses on top of the battery?

Sometimes they crack in the middle, tiny hairline crack in the middle and this can sometimes cause this weird behavior while driving.
