Re: Polo 6R Thread
Hi Guys
Been driving my 6R Polo for a while now and really loving it.
I have a few questions below, specifically for the 1.4 and 1.6 owners:
Intake:
CAI and flatbed filters - any decent gains to be had going the aftermarket route? How restrictive is the stock air intake system really?
Exhaust & branch:
Has anyone tried fitting an aftermarket exhaust yet?
If yes, how have you accounted for the tailpiece exiting the bumper? Cut-out or full GTI rear bumper swap? I’m in two minds about cutting, can just the GTI rear bumper apron be retrofitted instead?
Which size exhaust seems to be yielding the best results? Stock? 50mil? 50/57mil?
Branches, are they a worthwhile upgrade? If so, which configuration 4-2-1 or 4-1? Who stocks them?
De-catting - can the cutting out the stock catalytic converter alone free up some hp? Has anyone tried? Any persistent error codes even with the cat-fooler installed? How was fuel consumption affected?
Camshafts:
Is there anything locally available yet? If so, which durations and lift?
Brakes:
The stock brakes are quite average. Are there any straight swap or bolt-on upgrades available from the fellow vw/audi siblings? (Audi A1, Polo GTi, etc…). Will bigger wheels be required to clear them?
Software / Unichip:
Are the stock motors de-tuned in any way? Any worthwhile gains to be had loading software or chipping?
VCDS tweaks:
Needle sweep, Brake Assist / sensitivity adjustment, etc – who has tried them? How easy were they to code? Which tweaks would you recommend?
Visual & Audio:
Roofspoilers – is there any way to transplant GTI spoiler across? Which other oem or aftermarket options seem to do the rear end the most justice?
Headunit upgrades – which oem and aftermarket units are currently the best bang for back?
If any of the above Q’s have already been answered in the previous posts, I do apologise (please post the link). Just hoping to gain some more clarity and insight with regards to the above.
Thanks!

Are you not even the least bit curious as to what potential these 1.4 & 1.6's could have?cap'ncook wrote: I've got one question: Why not just buy a PGTi
Being 16v and over-square by design, they have a natural propensity to rev very well. With a few mild breathing and fueling mods who knows how much more there could be had to enjoy?
The 6R is already a beautifully balanced platform. But being an enthusiast (read ocd), I always like to improve on the already winning recipe where possible.
Small, practical tweaks here & there could make a noticable difference in the real world, yes? Better brakes, better throttle response, better handling, etc.
To tell me why not just buy a PGTI instead would be the easy answer.
But why not instead try to work with what one already has?

Re: Polo 6R Thread
The cost of doing that volume work to your car is why to high . I own a 1.2tsi and wanted to take it to next levels but its not working out due to cost. so I've put down my deposit for a pgti manual . same car but so much better in many ways.Blazin wrote:Are you not even the least bit curious as to what potential these 1.4 & 1.6's could have?cap'ncook wrote: I've got one question: Why not just buy a PGTi

Exhaust: I've got mine done at Primaforce in North Coast road, best bunch of guys ever. I paid R1700 for i think a 50mil
I had to swap out the back bumper for a gti one.(pretty much any place sells that now) It just looks better with a rear diffuser anyways
the 50mil gives an epic small time gti fart noise too (@>3000RPM). But you use approx 1-1.5l/100km more (which sucks)
Brakes: They aren't the best at speed, but hey, its not a race car
Software: Don't bother, The money vs power yield is not at all worth it.
Roofspoilers: I prefer the stock hatch look, but the gti spoiler swap can be done
Headunit Upgrades: OEM capacitive touches are everywhere now. I got mine from dx.com (took a month to ship) Cost R3000. It's OEM as F*** though.
http://www.vwclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic ... start=1525
Other than that, i understand why you would like to mod the 6R. It probably cost me 15k to get the car to how i like it, still far cheaper than a gti.
Happy Modding

Do you have any idea what OEM stands for? Original Equipment Manufacturer. That's not even almost OEM. No offense, but it even LOOKS cheap. That's a straight up aftermarket head unit.

Either try Phillips Silverstar or 6000K Xenons. Although with Xenons, not sure if warranty will be affected.

Re: Polo 6R Thread
Greetings,
Anybody with a 6R done the 120k km's service yet? What items need replacing?
Anybody hear of some gear in the head needing replacing that costs around R7k and affects the valve timing?
