mk2 16v- talk to me.

Post by Yakuza Racer »

say hypothetically there is a mk2 csl , 1800 carb motor, clutch doesnt work and many other issues..

either 16v abf (12k complete incl gearbox) or 9a (R4500 motor only)

what do i need besides:
fuel tank and lines - from which car?
fuel pump - warlbro will work?
gearbox (9a) - which one?
management - will decide
Ingle ITB's
injectors - which will work well?
cams - 276 good?

anything else to make it work?

*too much work for the vr6 lump as i have seen with forest build...

fuel rail , management , headwork , cams , you wont need a cable box necessarily as you wont make enough torque to smash the rod shift boxes afaik - will save you a fortune , can use a 2y etc ...things like warm up regulator/idle thingy if the motor does not come with it .

You are much better off with an 020 box, unless you want more of a headache.
Also you dont need a new tank, as far as i know.
Management, depends on your tuner.
I say worry about cams and throttles after you get the stock motor up and running...

is this for the ABF bigboy?

which would be a better buy the ABF or a KR motor perhaps? im not after speed more so a "show car" if i must classify it.

@boosted 16v - thats including box, intake, injectors, blah,blah,blah... its at one of my contacts, he even said i can do a 2 month payment plan lol. - would i need to change the gearlinkage if i go cable shift- i would assume so.

no rust at all, body is straight in the pics, owner said no accidents, interior is mint according to him, car needs a respray and other bits and bobs (front bumper, left fender, blah, blah) . Really nothing i can't fix.

but will only know how it looks after i view it tonight in person, my buddy checked it out and said it looks good for the price.

abf wont need a fuel rail , but you will need th other stuff . ABF seems to make very good power with basic bolt ons . ABF box would be cable shift , so if you getting it all as a package go for it ...but the cost will mount up fast ! , not sure if driveshafts and cv's are interchangeable with a csl ?

No offence but there are alot more parts available for MK3. So check it out yourself...

See what you need and try and source it BEFORE you buy the car.

I know some guys say dealerships might still have, but really its like discovering gold in your back-yard.. Not going to say it never happens, but chances are slim...

Didnt read all the posts, but one thing that stood out was that you can use same tank, fit GTi pump in the tank and a high pressure pump underneath. Its not as bad as the mk1 carb

Front floor pan, around Both Front and rear window.. Subframe may also be junk.. Check for play in the bolts at the back for the control arm/subframe - they bolt straight to the body. If they are busted it wont even be roadworthy..
