did one a while ago and now for the life of me cannot not recall what the markings looked like. Ignition was pretty much fixed if I recall right and the cam was pretty obvious. So basically just turn the engine by hand and see till you get tdc on the crank and then look for the others.

Hi there,

I did my 2004 Polo 1.6 8v BAH 9N engine a week ago from bottom up.

Rings STD, Bearings Agents, Rear Oil Seal Agents with built in Trigger Ring, Front Seals Etc, water pump, cam belt, plug leads, plugs.

Car starts up fine idle just below 1000rpm, Vag indicates idle at 800rpm and 15 Degress BTDC.

Problem: The car drives fine at times then all of sudden it bogs down like loss of spark then picks up again after 2500rpm moves like bullet. It battling on lower take off with alot of hi cups which is intermittent...

I set the Trigger wheel pilot hole at 12 o clock, and front crank gear notch to first mark to the left of the oil pump. Also re aligned the throttle body.

any ideas ?

The log u posted is very hard to read. U rather convert that into a spreadsheet on excel and take a pic of it. There are other ways of loading a log onto the forum (i dont how to do it)

Firstly, the hole on the rear main seal should not be lined up directly with the hole on the housing.
On the seal housing, theres a little notch on the lhs of the hole which the hole on seal must be aligned with.

The rms normally comes with a small plastic aligning tool, i dont know if an oem 1 would though.

Theres a post somewhere on here with more info on this.

The front end should be aligned with "2v" on the oil pump housing. i cant remember whether its the first or second mark.

Are u getting any timing or crank/cam sensor dtcs?

Hi Guys,

So is the crank pulley need to reflect on the 2v mark?

I have set mine on to the dot (cant remember if it was 2v or 4v but its the one with the line and then the dot) and checked the first piston, it seems to be TDC but i had to set the cam pulley by teeth clockwise in order for the car sensor fault to go away.

The car runs smooth when cold but as it heats up there is a slight back fire when releasing the accelerator, fule consumption went from 100km / R100 to 50km/R100.

Please help

the fuel price went up. Rand per kilometer is not a good fuel consumption measurement

You could have the incorrect filter in. There is a 3 bar and 4 bar filter. Often people get the wrong one and don't check what came out.
