Re: Worth fitting VR6 motor in MK1 Golf???
Its a 15 degree narrow angle V6, it is by no scientific principle a straight 6 engine... come guys, you really should get your facts straight before jumping up and down.
Anyway, dont throw sarcastic comments at me, as if I am the incompetent law enforcer who goes around impounding modified cars that are in better shape than most standard cars!
I am just telling you what WILL happen... Most police dont know anything about engines and it can be a simple thing like the LOOK of an engine, that will decide whether you get impounded or not...
and lets face it, there is no hiding how extreme a VR6 Motor looks in a Citi, same goes for the ABF, as I said earlier...
Answer this question to understand my point here... If you had a 2l 8v with ITBS running Meth and making 130KW, but it was done discreetly and had the Life engine cover over the 8v motor, would you get impounded when a cop who knows NOTHING about engines, goes and opens the bonnet and sees a standard looking setup? N0!
But when old sergeant Harry, 60 years old and half blind opens the bonnet and sees a V6 engine???
Look guys, I am not against engine swaps, you forget I had an ABF Citi...
I am just talking from experience and trying to help someone who I believe is going to spend far too much money on a conversion that will get him into trouble anyway...
Just my 2 cents, thats it from me on this topic.
Do what makes you happy, as long as you enjoy paying school fees later Goodluck

Re: Worth fitting VR6 motor in MK1 Golf???
I Must Agree with Smok3X on that 1. The Cops in Durban have no hassles impounding a modded Car.. and almost every single Citi Golf that gets pulled over is searched.. i've seen cars pulled over for Cone Air Filters, Lowered suspension etc etc. It doesn have to be a V6 in a Citi... any modded car will run the risk of being impounded.

Re: Worth fitting VR6 motor in MK1 Golf???
Sorry one more thing...
My point is, you can still fight your case with a cone filter or Xenon light or Exhaust system... Even with a 2l 8v, they will NEVER know just by looking.
But a VR6? I bet you cant even keep a straight face wile telling a Durban Cop, yes officer, this conversion is legit and safe!
You get pulled over with a VR6 Citi in Durbs, just smile and hand over the keys.
So my answer to the question... No, its not worth it for that point alone!
Never mind the other issues of the weight balance being way off and understeer and the rest...

Re: Worth fitting VR6 motor in MK1 Golf???
You are funny, you know that Lets be realistic then, there is no law whatsoever to stop anyone putting a VR6 engine into a MkI Golf or CitiGolf, is there? It may be crazy, it may be stupid, it may not be practical but that doesn't change the fact that it is not against the law. What is against the law is the constant harassment that Durban drivers have to endure almost everyday from police. If a MkI Golf or CitiGolf has been through a police clearance, roadworthy, is registered and licenced the police can do absolutely nothing, yet they do...Smok3X wrote:Guys, lets be realistic here...
Cops are not THAT stupid.

the issues exist in DBN where the officers are anal.. Even when it comes to lowered cars. I also heard that they enforce the law that your after market wheels can only be 2" bigger than what came stock on the car.

You don't have a snow balls hope in hell of finding a running complete engine for R3k.
By the way start a thread of your own in the wanted section. Not piggyback on a completely unrelated old post.
