be warned with high lift cams and this piston does leave the piston top very thin in certain areas which does break ...trust me ..

i rekon if u want to make gud power, go high compression, polo cup piston minimum. the nissan pop up pistons not gonna last!

see that engine for sale in classifieds runs 13.4 compression ratio, with low duration cams and lift. 170kw. PM edmpie, he knows all the details on 20v build.

im running 12.0, avgas for safety.

Thanks, but I'll rather build it than spend R35k on a motor I know almost nothing off.

I spoke to Sarel Eloff, he also use CA18DET, but decks the block.

I'll get a set of CA18DETs and see what's up.

I'm going from turbo to n/a, so ultimate power is not my goal, I'm just looking for something different. Pumps gas only as well.

Hello and sory for bump so old post.

I would like to build street NA ABF engine with ITB. I’m going to use AAZ/1Y/1Z diesel crank and BMW M52 (2.8l) 84,00mm pistons. I read that they need some work but are best idea for ABF (based on OEM parts).
I have questions about:
- bearings – which one should I use? From ABF or AAZ/1Y/1Z engine? Which will be better – ACL or Clevite. If Clevite – H or P series?
- piston pin – diameter in ABF piston/conrods is 21mm and BMW has 22mm. ABF connecting rod sleeve has inside diameter 21 and outside 23mm. What the way to connect them together? I found some information about 2E conrods. They has bigger smal end diameter so they can be able to make bigger hole for pin bearing for 22mm piston pin. Is it true or I need custom rods?

Thanks and best regards
Lukas

You can use the ABF rod. Get the small end machined and new bushes installed.

We don't get clevite here so cannot comment. ACL is known and is good.

Is it safe? I found some Torker’s post in UK forum (as I remember good) and he was writed that he has BMW pistons in one of his ABF. But unfortunately no more details about conrods. I tried send PM to him, but he blocked this option.

Here's a screenshot containing email and telephone number. Pretty sure Skype will be able to call that number at a low cost to you should you need to speak to them directly.

Another guy is Sarel Eloff at 8V Performance. Google their number and email.

Both these guys are very helpful and can give you plenty of advice for your build.Image

I decided to change setup. I'm using pistons with 20mm pin.

Hi guys Im also thinking of bumping up the CR on my 8v Xflow with throttles. Stock block now. Was thinking of going the CA18det piston. My head is been done by Sarel. Fully worked head with 298cam.
My question is. Can I use the nissan piston just as it is with mods on pin and must I also take of top of piston and wil the CR be right for pumpgas (road)

No. Mods are needed to make it fit.
No CR is not pump fuel friendly. It will ping like crazy at 2deg BTDC on 95ULP, to solve the engine killing detonation problem the motor will need methanol and a fuel system 4 times its current size. With the rest as it is it will get about 3 or 4 km/l. This is fine if it's a race car, but awful for daily driving.

Go look for 1000cc side feed injectors that will suit your setup. It should help you make a decision regarding the next move.
