MP9 idle motor on xms

Post by panic-mechanic »

Ok finally got around to giving this a try and guess what - it works just fine. Seems the idle motor is a pwm device and it works just hunky dory being controlled by the 2 wire idle setup on the xms4and 5. There is a white and black wire on the tps plug. Black for the 12v and white to the aux for the idle motor. Think they are oins 1 and 2
I also found a magnetic pickup form Gw for the agg and ady blocks and most likely abf too that fits with no mods and is R385. Will post their part number for it tonight. Got the box at home.

Sounds fun.

I got a little naughty with mine and moved the base timing reference by 5 degrees. I guess this has the effect of increasing the timing EVERYWHERE by 5 deg.....but it feels great. No pinging or anything, idle is WAY better and is all round running great. So I wont need the MP9 motor for a while.

True but just be careful to mutch timing can end in tears. High RPM ping under load even in a NA car can go nasty pretty quickly.

That Magnetic pickup you speak off, is that the internal type that fits on the block of the ADY?

I need to make a bracket for mine on the abf as there is no power steering bracket like originally to hold the sensor in the correct position. Any ideas?

Yeah I hear ya. I dont rev the **** out of it, only hit the 6k limiter once ever. It just feels nice and angry right now. I actually have a theory that when I went through that massive storm last year sometime and got water in the dizzy and it was backfiring like mad as I limped home that maybe the dizzy moved or something like that. It never felt quite the same after that.....but since changing the timing a bit it feels like it did when it first got tuned.

I would realy like my little Gotech Mini-X to also control the MP9 throttlebody idle control motor.
I wonder if anyone managed to get that working, as the gotech also has an 2-wire idle control function...

You can wire the idle control through GPO2. The idle motor is pin1 and pin2 on the throttle body. It does take a bit of time to get setup right, but works good.
