my personal opinion is it not worth it.
Will be changing to 235's once they worn out.

potholes are a schlep, the inner rim gets scrapped easily when going up or down pavements, the out rim get stone chips easily from the front tyres.
the list goes on and on.

Ride is very stiff and you feel bumps alot
I don't think they make that much of a difference hey, I know my friend had 225' and went to 235's and he didn't feel a difference instead he had rubbing issues with the bigger tyre.
Going from 235's to 225's is hardly stretching a tyre...
The lower the profile, the more difference it makes. There's a significant difference in stretch between 225/35/19 on a 8.5J and 235/35/19 on a 8.5J. There's not much sidewall to work with.

I wouldn't say so, poor examples on tyrestretch.com though...

225/35/19 on 8.5

and...

215/35/19 on 8.5

Obviously tyre brand has an impact, my Toyo Proxes 4's stretched more than my current Yokohama S-Drives do due to the sidewall difference...

Btw, here's a nice website for comparisons:

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

The site states that a 225/35/19 has a 79 mm sidewall, but in actual fact the rim edge is about 40mm from the tar. So, the point I'm trying to make is not that 225/35/19 has stretch, it is that 5mm horizontal (235 - 225 / 2) makes a difference in sidewall angle on 40mm "sidewall".

As a disclaimer: I don't use the car everyday and I wouldnt really recommend running 175's on a 8.5J wheel. The Ride is KAK and the fact they they are stretched always hangs out in the back of your mind.
Having said that when I got them put on a took the car out and belted it around some corners. No problem Ive driven through potholes and bumps and the tyres never came off.

Im sure there is added risk when running tyres like this though.

Nice website, I built my own ET comparison tool but this does the visualisation so well...

I guess you have to take two things into account, the narrower width of the 225 creats moee sidewall angle and it gives a smaller sidewall which also affects the sidewall angle. I need to draw this stuff, my head isn't working on a Friday afternoon...
