Car not reving up

Post by Echo03 »

Hay all

Ok so my car has been standing for more than a month now and I want to get it sorted now.

The problem is that the car sounds like it is taking when swinging the starter but it does not rev up from there, I have checked and there is spark on all 4 cylinders and I take it there is fuel as it does sound like it wants to take.

The problem came about pretty weird aswell, It was running fine, then just standing ideling it suddenly started getting more and more unhappy until it died, it did start after that but did not rev up from idle, even with wide open throttel, pulled plug wires off one by one and put them back and only when I pulled cyl 4 it died.

Any inputs would help, please, And it is a gotech mini x that I am using.

are you getting spark on all for leads, fit a old working plug in there, swing motor and check.
also did you set timing, double check this, maybe the dizzy is not locked tight and moved abit.

on idle does it sound like its missing and running on 3 cylinders?
Are you sure the actual plug in the head is sparking and working and not a dud.
other thing it can be is fuel pressure on at the rail if its not a spark miss or even compression.

Did you check your fuel rail, block of the return and see if the car starts. Had the same problem with my Velo. Apparently the fuel rails break on the inside. Not sure why.

I would look at the things stated above and when that still does not make a difftence have a look at replacing the fuel in the tank and make sure all the filters are clean.

OK guys, so I hooked up the jumper cables to try the things mentioned above, swinged it just to see what happens before I changed anything and it took, tuned the timing a bit, and it even idled and reved up nicely, drove it 500m down the road, turned around and it just died again. When I block off the return You can hear the petrol pump stops so dont think that is good but will just try it like that tomorrow cause the battery was too drained to swing it properly, and then try and replace the petrol filter.

It sounds like your battery is causing all off that. Get it charged overnight properly or get a new battery.

...You can hear the petrol pump stops...
Im not so mechanically minded...but would'nt the above mean that the pump could not be supplying enough fuel therefore the car is starving for fuel and not starting, idling etc?

No I what I meant with that is that the pressure is so high the pump stops working, so I will just check it quick before I burn my pump.

Ok guys just a quick update,

I redid all the wiring off the management after truing everything suggested, tried it again and same problem.

I then changed the plugs and it started on the first turn, Bought new plugs, put it in and idled fine, drove out the yard and started losing power again and same problem occurred, I think the over fueling from the 2.0 map might be killing the plugs, what do you think?

I havent removed the new plugs yet but will do that tomorrow evening when I get back from work and take a pick to post.

Will also try a comp test, just need to get my friend to bring his tester, but don't think it is that as the motor was running fine and did no fool around there when I did the gaskets.

If only I could get my laptop to work on the gotech I could load another map and see, but if all goes well will be taking the car for a tune on thursday :type:

I had a similar issue in my citi, in my case it was the water temp sender. Changed it to a VW original and life came back.
