Thanks for the info guys , I drove a Golf 5 Gti the weekend it had an exhaust system or downpipe only I'm not sure and the guy selling the car didn't know either but it had an awful drone like sound coming from the back of the car like from the boot and it is quite irritating and I really want to do a downpipe but I won't be able to live with that drone in my ears the whole time, Oh and this car had a R32 bumper on it if it will help, Thanks in advance.

You aren't perhaps from cape town?
Because I drove behind a white gti today with a r32 bumper and wheels and it sounded dreadful as if the exhaust was fubar!

I've heard other gti's with the r32 rear conversion and it sounded nice.
Maybe the oke that did the exhaust did a bad job

I got my DP fitted last friday and it sounds INSANE

no drone at all, driving around under 3500rpm and the car sounds stock, but when you plant it it comes alive

I will assume that the car in question not only has a downpipe but full exhuast right through and hence the drone. Thats my guess anyway. With just downpipe and standard exhaust from downpipe to backbox it should not have a drone

You will not get a CEL on the Gti5. My downpipe from FRC also sounded stock until pushed hard (even then it was still relatively quiet) :)

Hey guys managed to come across this thread... So my question will be - Would a DP on these Motors affect the Mechatronics in any other way, sounds like a rather dump question since the 2 are not connected in any way but i am just curious?

That's a bit of a strange connection to make. Why would you think that would be the case?

Know of a few colleagues who had installed these DP'S and straight after that the mechatronic units got fried and this is 2 guys i know of, just a week after the installation in both instances.

There's absolutely no direct link between the two. It's possible a more aggressive driving style after the DP was done, brought out a latent defect in the unit that was there already. If a link existed, then surely the new mechatronic unit would also be damaged and fail in the same way shortly after install?
