Golf 5 Induction Kit Air Flow?

Hi guys,

I am currently in the final stages of building an induction kit for my Golf V GTI. Similar to that of the ITG 76mm going to 63mm at maf sensor housing (all pipes are aluminium)

I am at the coast so what air flows(g/s) should I expect when I do logs on my car (as it is/was stock)? - before and after aproximate results would be appreciated...

Any body put an induction kit without downpipe or software?

I just finished building one too which retains the engine cover and runs a cone filter + Motorcade rear heat-shield + front CAI box. Car is stage one and it flowed +/- 180grams and intake temps were down by a full 10degrees... Just need to get my SD card back from sum1 then I'll post pics + logs results...

Nice, that must look cool...

Yeah I put mine on, and the heat got too much, was reading way too hight, so busy building a rear heat shield now,

Did some logs and the air flow is in the 220+ but the heat was 50deg + so then the car went into protective mode (limp mode)

So hopefully I can sort everything out by this week end, then will put up more accurate logs on the car...

I ran logs again this morning and the car flowed 198 - 205grams

Not 2shabby for an intake running through the stock / empty air-box induction plumbing

Some preliminary pics when i initially test fitted the system (will posted final functional pics over the weekend)

Looks really neat and the engine bay looks nice and full.

looking nice there bud and very neat... and good flows there...

I need a rear heat shield like that...

How is the dumping noise thus far?

Unf u dont really get dumping noise on the DSG cars...

But the turbo spools up louder and the engine tone is also a bit deeper

Gona try and run it on a friend's manual GTi over the wknd to hear if the DV noise is louder than stock

Hi dude,

Did you manage to test your induction on your friends Manual GTi? how did it go?

Mine was an epic fail, too much heat, It runs super well when cold, but once you get on the highway, the car goes into limp mode. (inflow heat 57deg/c)
So over trying to make it work now...
Was thinking of trying something similar to what you have done, but are there any problems and did your car go into limp mode?

Thanks in advance...

No limp mode and its been ridiculously hot here lately... The inlet temps always remain a lil lower than stock even on the hotest of days... You need that extra rear heatshiled (motorcade)... Its makes a huge difference...

I had the K&N on my car and it does not have a heat shield for the rear or for the filter.....never had any heat issues. Odd.
Flow was also between 200 and 205 at the coast.

Played around with MAF scaling and it went up to 223 to 225gs

Maybe that will help, the rubber bends gets extreamly hot as well... And limp mode is frustrating as the car takes more fuel as well, goes up to 16.5l/100kms

Thats awesome, were you stock software?

Guess you are referring to just4fozi@yahoo.com as you are in P.E,

One of my friends has a laptop with VAG-com, have a lap top just need that cable and software then I am sorted…

Cool, I am currently stock and thinking of putting a Downpipe tomorrow in my cab... Then software will follow...

Downpipe is a good mod (even if stock). Just feels like the car pulls much better higher up in the rpm...the sound is also nice :)

I'm using a motorcade induction kit but without the heat shield. I struggled to remove those damn bolts that holds the engine cover. I never had limp mode issues though. I think I will try to put back the heat shield today and see what happens.

I have a dsg and the car dumps fine, just not noisy but loud enough for anyone to hear. I have an evolution 76mm dp but no sw. Car feels great though.

Thought I should revive this thread. Did some logs over the weekend with Killerwatt on my car and we found that the stock intake on the car flows 165 g/s. By removing the snorkel and mesh screen in the airbox we found that it flows 195 g/s. We wasnt sure that this was an accurate reading due to the shape of the intake at the MAF where the snorkel was removed being now more angled.

We replaced the snorkel but left the mesh screen out and found the car flowed 175 g/s. What I would like to know is are all the intakes out there like the K&N typhoon, Pipercross, ITG etc really worth the money you spend on it. I seen that the gains on the K&N for example is only up to 18 HP as per K&N.

My idea is to keep the stock look of the engine bay. I dont want to drive without the engine cover. Are there no kits that use the engine cover?

Is your car stock? I think it is a must to put an induction kit for the Mk5 GTi if stage 2 is loaded, some guys load it without, but this will run the risk of their car overheating and problems may begin and that’s why most reliable tuners don't recommend it. But it can be done.

There are a few induction kits out there that work with the OEM cover on, but the filter in the cover will need to be removed and one added on the front…
One of the types is like the above shown by just4fozi@yahoo.com. There was also another posted for sale recently, think it was Pipercross or something. Good luck.

But dude did you hear a car with an ITG or the KNN Typhoon? it sounds really cool as if it has a sequential dump valve... as well as you will be gaining a few kwts instead of losing kwts with a dumpvalve...

I got done to putting a down pipe on my ride, and damn it made a huge difference, will try experimenting with inductions again soon...

Hey guys found a link makes for some good reading w.r.t G5 intakes

http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80189.

makes me think twice of messing with the intake

My K&N flows 179g/s up here in PTA, at the coast my car felt like a n/a motor, there wasn't any lag whatsoever! Trust me, your car feels very suffocated when you are use to an intake and fit a stock airbox back! If you go stage 2 and tune for and intake and dp the gains are very awesome! Less strain on the turbo also because air is more freely available

I would still like to see a full log of a car with an intake, log should include timing, fuel trim, boost (actual & specified), etc.
If the car is tuned for the intake will be nice to see the adaptions and the full trims. If I get my hands on drop in filters or full intakes I will do the logs and post up here.

Hi guys I would like to know if it's normal that my K&N typhoon only flows at 168 g/s , It's currently loaded with stage 2 software and has wildcat down pipe fitted and I also have air ducting running from the open fog grills to the filter .

Talk about a thread revival  . Ok on a seroius note that seems like a fair airflow for an intake. How clean is the filter and it intake fitted correctly?
