TDI Crank
Can a 'boxed' TDI crank work on a 2.0 short block?
I know it is used on the 2.0 long block.

Re: TDI Crank
I'm not sure what a boxed crank is...but AFAIK you will need a bubble block for it to work. Also, the rods are short, so the rod ratio will be ****...

Re: TDI Crank
You have to mod a short block to get a 2.0 crank to swing, I don't think a TDi crank is gonna work in there, you will need a tall block.

Re: TDI Crank
it can work, only in a 2,0L bubble block, stroke is 95,5mm, can even stroke it to 100mm and rebalance the crank after machining, but 100mm woundn`t work will touch the sleeve on the bottom edge, I think the big end gernal size is bigger on some tdi cranks, which you have to get down to the standard 8v petrol motor rods big end size, have to send for destress and niteride, and also do a mod to remove the oilpump gear, machined down the nose for the crank pully to fit and take standard crank pully

Re: TDI Crank
Thanks for the replies.
I have done the 1.8 8v to 2.0 8v before.
82.5 pistons.
2.0 crank and machine the lip by the oil pump and a little off the intermediate shaft gear.
I see guys making 2.1 motors with the TDI crank and so I also want to do it.
But I only have a spare 1.8 16v short block motor atm.

Cheers.
So:
2e block
2.0 16v pistons with rods (or TDI rods?).
Modded TDI crank
16v intermediate shaft etc.
KR 16v head.

2E /ADY are bubble blocks, the TDi crank will work in a 2E motor. I've got one in an ADY block with 83.5mm pistons.Nolz007 wrote:What is a bubble block? And will the tdi crank work in a 2e motor? I know it works in the abf

Re: TDI Crank
Sorry for
But if i intend to get a tdi crank for my 2.0 longblock ady, do i need to get 16v pistons as well? What will happen to my compression ratio? Is it a streight foreward swap? I take it the tdi crank is from a 1.9tdi motor?

Re: TDI Crank
Jetta 4 81kw Tdi 95.5mm give 2l 92.8mm 2.7mm more stoke so 1.35mm higher out the block so use 2e/ady/aba/agg/abf rods and block and get 20mm small ends and 9a/aal short block pistons so it sits flush with block and cr ok,to get 10 remove thick shim on stealgasket and use 3 left thin shims,or use nissan 1.8dej turbo pistons 83 and 83.5mm already got 21mm gutsinpins.
The 96kw crank has bigger bigend journals,no u got to grind it ofsenter to get 100mm but now u leave it for a day too cool of afterward and pull skew, now u recut it afterwards again hey.
To cut nose R550 to nife R650 to box R450 to balance total asemble that's a must R550 so u need a tdi crank say a 1.9tdi one that goes for R2000 and then spend R2200 on it to get it boxed and all so R4200 for a crank is abit high hey? And what about cutting a bigyournal smaller???

Re: TDI Crank
The cranck will work.
We just finished one using a KR block with 84mm pistons from BMW.
There is a few things ones got to watch but it works really well.

95.5 will fit in a 9a block. There is some clearance issues that has to be adressed.
It has been done before.
Do a search on vortex there are plenty of them.
