Sup man, you sure its not the fuel rail, had a problem where my car just cut off on Saturday and wouldnt rev up. Turned out to be a broken fuel rail. Diagnostics didnt pick it up, just gave a idle sensor error.

Hmmm... I am not sure about the fuel rail huh... I know the 8v Motors suffer with broken fuel rails all the time, but not sure about the ABF fuel rail. I would think that it cant be a damaged fuel rail, because if the rail is damaged, then how does the car work normally for hundreds of KMS and then fail again?

It is definitely not the Coil, as we tried 2 other coils from running Golfs and it made no difference at all. My car's coil also works perfectly on another car!

My suspicion is still the ECU. As the 1.4 ECU I am using, is the same ECU I had with my standard 1.4 motor and I experienced the same problem with the 1.4 motor, just not this often, and listen to this...

Car broke down on Friday... Would not start at all! I towed the car home and unplugged the ECU, assuming it would reset itself being unplugged. I plugged it back in on Sunday morning and guess what? Without touching ANYTHING else.... the car started and behaved normally!!! :bang:

I am now looking for another ECU, I have FRC on the job :driving:

Its FIXED...touch wood!

and the problem was... que drum roll... The 1.4i ECU!!!

FRC checked it out and it had a short which was causing the irratic unexplainable behaviour!
ECU has been repaired and car is flying again :-) Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions and trouble shooting tips! and of course to FRC for Fixing the ECU at no charge and for all the help with the endless phone calls from JHB helping me to get things going! Always a pleasure with the FRC guys!

I doubt the ECU got fried all by it's own doing .. There is sum other bit or component that is causing a short to ground .

Well, on a mp9 system, the idle is controlled by the throttlebody
